I think it's all down to the GUI. As far as I can tell it gets a bad rap because people see it in a "paint by numbers" light. Personally I use it in a different way so my projects don't look too different from a cubase project.

I never discovered that, the step sequencer veiw i believe? I may have stuck with FL if i had, i love how Cubase is set out, but FL with it's f*cking patterns drove me up the wall.

Don't be so secretive :p My first track was done and internetted(if that becomes a new word, just remember who came up with it ;)! ) 5 hours after I got my hands of FL Studio ^^ It's fun to have something to look back on and think "mate, was I shit back then"

You can hear this track for a laugh on my MySpace :D www.myspace.com/nakkenboro
It's the last track, "My bicycle is broken"

You'll love the drums

Most people use the block method:

I use the pattern method:

I find the block method confusing and but the pattern method is easier to use, I can see exactly what's going on all the time.

I actually find the pattern method more confusing, too much going on. If you colour-code the blocks, it makes your life a hell of a lot easier.

Blocks have their reasons for being there, such as using more than one channel at once in the same black can save space making things easier to find. Say I wanted a loop going and also some bleepy samples going aswell I could put it all in a single block.

Exactly.

If you start to have things in different channels everything gets mixed up. If I want a bleepy sample going at the same time as something else I'll just put two patterns playing at the same time. It's much faster and cleaner.

I'm not saying I don't agree but after a while you end up with about 50 different patterns and it becomes a pain finding stuff, so I group certain bits into one pattern to save space.

Ie, a crash with 1 kick drum at the same time can just stay in the same pattern whats the point having them in two different patterns if your only going to use them together anyway and never at different times. I just name it "1 Kick + Crash".

totally agree with mortis on this, by using the pattern's in the audio section of the playlist you have more control, the bonus is, you can chop up a single pattern copy drag etc... saves making loads of seperate patterns to use in the block playlist

wow guys i'm overwhelmed with all the responces

first off thank you very much for all you support.

part from being a student i am a semi pro carp angler/coach and i would never get this kind of response if i was starting to fish for the first time so this is amazing and i am very grateful.

from listen to what you all ave to say and checking out your tunes i am gagging to make my own! been listening to hardcore constantly and the radio on here which from 4 days ago i found it, it is the best thing since slice bread (keep going guys) and just trying to get as much inspiration as possible, even when i'm outside netting the ponds iv got my ipod blaring lol.

iv downloaded the FL demo and well what can i say i feel like a right noob and have no idea how to use it or even start (such a noddy) so will check out some tutorials on you tube but any more help or vids or anything you guys can throw at me we be so appreciated and i couldn't thank you guys enough
