I got my hands on some dubstep recently and I've been trying it out... and I have to say, maybe I just got some bad stuff, but this is some of the most annoying music I've ever heard. It's slow, repetitive, every song feels like its 8 goddamn minutes long... pretty much just offensive on every level.
However, I must say it sounds pretty trippy, probably good stoner music...
Any one have thoughts on dubstep? Did I get the wrong cd, and if so can someone suggest a GOOD dubstep album? lol...

Any thoughts? Yes. You can read them in one of the many other threads dedicated to Dubstep.
You probably don't have the wrong CD it's more likely Dubstep just isn't for you. Thanks for giving it a go, but you should probably just accept the fact and move on; listen to Trance or something instead.

heard a guy playing this at the unibar the other day. was pretty much exclusively dubstep with a few housey tracks thrown in. got sick of the stuff after about three songs. it can be used very effectively as a change, much like voodoo people was (in every single set) three or four years ago

There are a few really good dubstep tracks i think, but they do have to be really good indeed! I don't mind doing a few dubstep mixes every now and again either, it really is THEE easiest genre to mix with cause its all so bloody similar! Still, can be a really good crowd raiser if you play the right stuff!

It all just sounds like hardstyle in slow motion to me :X
I can see how it could be good though, which is why I was hoping I had gotten a bad cd...

It's just about the forward motion created by the bassline. It can hit the dancefloor really hard.
Try 'LOVE' by Borgore and the 16bit Remix of 'Machine Gun' by Noisia.
I'm not a massive fan myself but I do like those two tracks a lot.

Listening to Love right now, it's not too bad, still a bit slow lol... maybe if I sped it up it would just be hardstyle :D!

No because hardstyle is a 4/4 kick beat and dubstep is like hip-hop. Though it does sound more hype when you bump it up a bit.

I said they FEEL 8 minutes long, because they're so slow and repetitious.

You're are all idiots.
Dubstep "the easiest genre to mix because it's all the same"?
Hmm, as appose to Hardcore which is all so random and ridiculously difficult to mix? Ok. I get the feeling you couldn't pull of a decent in key Dubstep transition to save your life. Prove me wrong though please.

Eh? In what way?
"Listening to Love right now, it's not too bad, still a bit slow lol"
Er obviously.
"maybe if I sped it up it would just be hardstyle :D!"
Get out. Right now.
"I said they FEEL 8 minutes long, because they're so slow and repetitious"
Pot? Kettle? Yeah.

Roid-rage, try and take it down a notch.
I'm just saying that dubstep doesn't seem to be my style of music... I guess it's not terrible but I certainly wont be spending any more time listening to it. As for mixing it... I mean... come on, when you're mixing hardcore at 180 BPM you gotta keep up. Dubstep is 140 bpm, with a hard hit every other beat as far as I'm seeing, which knocks it down to practically 70 BPM for Christ's sake, who CAN'T mix that? But I'm not here to argue over who's cooler for mixing what, I just wanted some suggestions of verified good dubstep before I trashed an entire genre.

As a side note, I just kicked Love up to 185 BPM, and it sounds a lot better >.>

Roid-rage?
If it's not your style of music don't listen to it, no need to slate it for being slow. It's like slating Rock for using guitars. It's 140bpm with a half-time beat, of course it's slow.
Easy to mix? You ever tried? Slower genres are actually harder to mix, if the beats slip out in Hardcore or any other genre at 170 it's not so noticable, if it happens at 120-140 (or what is actually 70bpm) it can be an absolute train-wreck. Hardcore is piss easy to mix please don't think otherwise. i taught a friend to mix, he wanted to mix house, do you know what i used to teach him? Hardcore because it's the easiest genre in the world to mix. It might be a bit trickier to mix on Virtual DJ but please don't act as though it's a challenge when mixing properly. Not to mention many Dubstep tunes have a melodic intro, that means you must mix in key and if done badly will sound awful to anyone that isn't tone-deaf. So it's not a case of anyone can mix Dubstep, the can as can they with Hardcore it's about doing it well. And if you think knocking a track at 140 bpm up to 185 sounds good i bet you class DJ rankins mash ups as good mixes.

I listened to I'll be there for you... it's not terrible, just sounds like an intro that never turns into a real song >.>
But again, it sounds like it would be awesome if I was high...
