Sorry I'm with MixMag on this ... sure they are generalizing things a little...they have to appeal to a wide audience.... a least they came on HappyHardcore.com to explain... respect to MixMag for putting hardcore on the front cover of a well known magazine!

I really liked the CD and I definitely wouldn't mind if Mixmag brought out a few more of them. I also think it would be fair to hear an appology from Mixmag as otherwise they will just be seen as a bunch of hypocrits. You can't just go around telling everyone to stay away from hardcore because the music is shit and the scene is made up of a bunch of losers and then turn around and tell everyone how great hardcore is. I'm sure you would gain a lot more respect from the hardcore scene if they heard an applogy.

I meant breakoff as in after you guys broke up. Like "newer" stuff by Luna C, you, and Tom.
What did you mean "we are due for a slapping"? Because Mixmag liked HC when Sesame's Treat was put out?

Like someone has already said it wouldn't be so bad if mixmag had been a little mature about their opinions and simply said "we are not interested in the music" but instead they slagged it off and slagged it off. I don't like garage but I don't continually insult the people who do like it. Wtf does that acieve anyway? - OBVIOUSLY NOT A LOT MIXMAG, COZ NOW YOU HAVE ZERO RESPECT FROM WITHIN THE HARDCORE SCENE! Note I said "Mixmag" and not "Viv@Mixmag" - If this Viv has only been there 6 months then she can't really be blamed for the shit but hopefully some of the muppets that write for the magazine will realise that you can't just diss whoever without facing a bit of backlash. £4 quid for a fifteen track CD still ain't bad tho.

im not with mixmag, because i dont think they "spot" an area thats going too become "trendy" i think they MAKE that area trendy (the press has a lot of power) and if mixmag say its ok to listen to hardcore, they people will
a year ago mixmag were banging on about how good progressive is,, blahblahblah, now where is the progressive section in the reviews?
i wont moan, cos i know im gonna get prooven otherwise, but i still think mixmag are crap, your magazine sucks (all personal opinion) ist great for the cds, im even more glad its mixed by brisk because its quality,, im not saying "dont get involved" just saying ur crap, along with ministry too.. they suck even more dick :)

Hey hey hey!!! Ministry is pretty damn cool, one of my favorite bands! Jesus Built my Hotrod, Psalm 69, and Thieves are some of my all time favorite tunes. Just cause you're angry doesn't mean you have to go around bashing industrial music!
:D

I think they were referring to ministry as in Ministry magazine, a dance music mag here in the UK. :)

there is always going to be a bit of a gulf between you guys who are deep into your scene and Mixmag would are making a big commercial mag. I have the same discussions with d'n'b, garage or free party people.
My aim is not to make Mixmag a happy hardcore mag to keep you guys happy, it's to make a magazine for lots of clubbers to like.
Oh well, whatever I say you'll demnad apologies and say we're shit. Maybe next issue I'll put 'Mixmag says sorry to HHC alright' on the cover and nothing else.
but would you even love us then?

Hrmm... honesty is good. Why even bother with HHC, Noise Core, Gabber, etc then? I don't think any of that music is gonna get playtime at clubs. Unless you all say it should, then maybe.
quote: Oh well, whatever I say you'll demnad apologies and say we're shit.
No, we just want an appology. I notice you tapdance around this issue, but refuse to directly respond to it. Don't you think we deserve a printed public appology? I sure do.
quote: Maybe next issue I'll put 'Mixmag says sorry to HHC alright' on the cover and nothing else.
That would be a very fair and appropriate action. It'd make up for the years of slander and make loads of people happy.
quote: but would you even love us then?
No, but it'd clean the slate and then the only point left would be the great CD (So I hear) you put out so maybe people would at least not hate you anymore.
I really hate coorporations. I hate publicity for decent underground music scenes too. No scene has ever gotten "trendy" and popular without being completely ruined. It just can't happen. Decent scenes are built slowly, with integration of people at a managable rate so that you can explain what the scene is all about and guide them properly. When you flood a scene with a bunch of moronic yahoo's looking for the next big high you push out most of the pillars that were keeping that scene standing and then the whole thing just implodes. Look at Rap, Rock, Ska, and Rave scenes for good examples of this.
The HHC scene is good and has been good for a long time because the people here actually like the music. We all have common ground and it makes our scene much stronger than most because those people all gathered when they heard it was the thing to do. HHC has been persecuted for a long time, and just like all other persecuted groups it has made us nothing but stronger. Now people wanna step in and make HHC exposed to the masses, the clubbers, the grand followers of the world that want nothing but a new and different high. But they'll all be gone in a few months and they'll rip the heart out of the scene while they are at it.
Do I want Brisk, Silver, Nick and all the others involved in HHC to be millionaires? Of course, that'd rock. Is it worth throwing the scene down the toilet to get them rich? In my opinion HELL NO! But it's not up to me cause I'm not the one calling the shots, producing, DJ'ing, running the labels, etc. HHC as a whole has just taken a big step into the realm of "selling out". And i'd be very careful how far you step into that realm because at some point the ground has always fallen out from the scenes that have done this.
in conclusion: I'm very upset with Mixmag as a whole and most of the rest of the popularist media outlets. You all blow goats. In the past Mixmag has bashed HHC and now they have a Brisk CD on the cover. That really sucks and it makes me sad that Brisk did a CD for them. And anything good they say about the HHC scene will either be ignored or will result in the degradation of the scene. So at the very least I feel that we are owed an appology, but mostly I'd like it if Mixmag (and the rest of the trend sucking bastages) would just stay the hell away from HHC and let it flourish as it has been for almost a decade now.
-Soren (As always just my opinions based on my current, and possibly very flawed, knowledge)
Here's a song snippet I thought was appropriate:
"Go on now, go walk out the door
Just turn around now
'Coz you're not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one who tried to break me with goodbye?
Did you think I'd crumble?
Did you think I'd lay down and die?
Oh no not I, I will survive
For as long as I know how to love, I know I'll stay alive
I've got all my life to live
And I've got all my love to give
I'll survive
I will survive" -HHC Scene

o i c..... usually whenever someone in the mainstream mentions hardcore they use Sesame's Treet, Trip to Trumpton, Charly, et al to remind people what sort of genre it is... i.e childish.
My views on mixmag are here:
http://www.happyhardcore.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4594 I do take issue though with Brisk being referred to as the Derek Trotter of Hardcore, I'd like to know exactly what's being implied there. Overall, just accept that this happens and next time when Mixmag do an article on hardcore, don't get too excited and don't contribute. We're too tight guys for this to get us down. I'm getting back to the new album! tata Nick

I wonder if this will happen again when *prog* is back in, and if the *prog* supporters will forgive the current mixmag editor for calling their scene dull and anally retentive.
Alternatively we could look at it like it is, that the same thing that happened to hardcore will happen to prog for the next 10 years, untill they decide they can get more readers/buyers by putting a progressive CD with the mag.
Either way, you just bashed the entire prog scene.
Next up, a return to HHC bashing?

yeh i must admit the derek trotter of hardcore bollox distrubed me too.
but the worst thing bout the whole lets jump on the 'hardcores back' bandwagon for me is the fact they deliberately spent yrs rippin the piss out of the scene, yet feel its perfectly acceptable to forget all bout thaty since hardcore is gaining its popularity again.
as for the apology, of course that is (well) overdue.
