I totally disagree.

Yes, hardcore seems to be emerging more and more after Y2k, but there are still Happy Hardcore being released after Y2k.

Its quite blind to say that because its a certain year, its a certain genre. But just because a track isn't completely in a major key, doesn't mean it can't be happy.

For instance Scott Brown - "Turn Up the Music". Its not in a major, in fact the chord structure is A minor, G major, F major and D minor. The chord structure is almost depressing, but the song in itself is quite uplifting. In my opinion its Happy Hardcore, as it has that overall uplifting feel.

Pick something from Nu-Energy, say Dj Sharkey - "Sound Assasin", it doesn't have the same uplifting feel. Its harder, but not necessarily faster and gives a driving feel. This is more Hardcore, even though the track is Freeform. I personally think that FreeForm is closer to overall Hardcore

But in the end both (Happy Hardcore and Hardcore) are quite hard compared to Dance, or even Pop. Think about it 140 bpm, or 170bpm+. Hmmm....

what does whether a song being in major or minor chord have to do with anything being declared happy? =P

and what genre is "dance" anyway?

m8, u r in aussie im in the uk & the majority of the uk dont use the term 'happy' hardcore anymore coz we have moved on.

Scott Brown - turn up the music is classed as uk hardcore or hardcore in the uk.

happy hardcore is a dated & kiddy name that makes ppl turn a shoulder.

well if you get embarrased about liking happy hardcore then that's your problem. i really couldn't care less, i'll keep loving it no matter what people think. i'm not gonna change the name of my favourite style just because other people don't like it.

drugs is not the answer... drugs? is the question... yes is the answer

Its the musical feel. When something (and this is generally) is in prodominately major key, then it is percieved to be Happier. If you listen to

i must say that breakcore happyhard is dead...but hhc is sooo still coming out. its hard and its happy IMO that = happyhard

i think a distinction needs to be made between hardcore and nuskool gabber, totally different sounds

i love it all, including the freefrom and trancecore, i want more more and i want it all!

sfx, if over in the uk your classing Scott Brown - turn up the music as hardcore you really need to listen to some dj tron or mark n i mean GOD its such a happytune on a comparitive scale to say rob gee - can i touch it, or every tron song on his classic mix tape '****ing godzilla up the but'

turn up the music is a happy choon yeah but its not happy hardcore as erm say forever young if ya get me.

some of the stuff dougal/gamma are making for NEP is proppa new style happy hardcore yet most ppl in the UK will call it hardcore or uk hardcore.

you know finking about it the main reason i probley dont say happy hardcore is due to being lazy. much less hassle to say hardcore or even haaarr. lol

*sigh*

Once again, the 'backwater' Aussie scene is spoken to as if it's a retarded cousin or something. How endearing. I think Pacman speaks for the rest of us on this issue.

Oh, and another thing, this isn't the first time someone's come from USH and dissed the widespread use of the phrase 'happy hardcore' on this site. Now, I haven't read this Holy Grail of threads where it was all apparently decided, but I'm just curious, was it (a) a consensus reached by DJ's, MC's, producers and other such movers and shakers in the scene as to the most 'proper' and appropriate name for the genre, or (b) just a bunch of ravers on a UBB bitching about how embarassing the 'happy' tag was?

ok so in the uk you will call dougal and gamer - get hype hardcore right?

what then would you call lenny dee and rob gee - spontaneous combustion

it sooo isnt anything like dougal and gemer get hype and there is no way it could be classed as speedcore of nu skool gabber

IMO your fools for calling something happy, just hardcore now matter how lazy you are

put it this way, i wouldnt go as a 'hardcore' dj to bloody fist in newcastle and play tracks like get hype or turn up the music...it could be a scarey outcome

the only time i say ukhardcore is when making the point that its made in the uk and happy hardcore when making the point its really happy.

i call oldskool oldskool not hardcore even tho it is, freefrom i call hardcore unless stating that fact about it being freeform, then i call it that. some fing goes with gabba.

this wont be the same for every1 in the uk but more than 50 % would do aswell.
