from the get go it has been characterized by piano riffs, synth stabs and spacey sounding effects.
midway through the 90s it started to sound like circus music. (take fuèík's entrance of the gladiators speed it up and add a kick drum)
heavy use of roland juno 106, jp 8000, jupiter 4 & 8, 909, 303 & akai samplers
can't remember the yamaha keyboards

Can you say UK Dance?

Lmao, sad but true.
What irritates me also is that some of those cliches seem to have slowly started sneaking into freeform. I hear those ear-pounding bassdrums and insane synths less and less often (being replaces by what seems to be stock sounds and synths).

thanx Rayovac, brian k & hard2get
Appreciate the information.
I am writing a ridiculous insane musical project that uses the idioms of hardcore, fantasy metal, jpop and videogame music to create a new sound.
It will be called [tlr] - "nvr_ndr"
...yup. Been working on it on and off for about 4 years. Hopefully should be out by 2010.
I have some remixes, old stuff and a 2007 album (for free dl) up on here if anyone wants to check it out.

Should also have a new 4 song ep up for free dl soon. Its done except recording the vocals but who knows how long that will take me. Then focusing on finishing "nvr_ndr"
thanks again to those who contributed useful information!

The FinRG type still pound out some decent Freeform i think. As do people like Lost Soul and Oli G (can't wait for that CD on HU4 ) and Epehxis, but i know what you mean. Hell i can't remember the last time i heard Relentless release a proper Freeform 12".
Oh and while on the subject of Freefrom, what's happened to Eryk Orpheus? I miss him :(
