If I ever play UK hardcore now it tends to be not much later than 2003, it's my favourite era for that particular sound.

Yeah, I've very rarely heard it played, I think it's a great track as well!
I've got a lot of love for this era, it's when I seriously started getting into hardcore. I remember in 2000-2001 I was a bit disappointed that the older 96/97 cheese sound was going away, but 2002 onwards I loved it.
At the time there was a dj by the name of molly mush. first heard "believe in me" in one of her sets. Desperately made me get that vinyl. :)

Wait, people really say hardcore was dead during this period? If it wasn't for that peak, I might never have gotten into hardcore in the first place.
First album ever heard was my brother's Happy 2b Hardcore Volume Four. Volume Three was one of the first I ever bought with my own money.
If anything, that period caused a resurgence in the style. Might have been a bit fresher then some of the old-school "classics" (You can't really compete with Pacific Sun, Heart Of Gold, etc.) but the experimentation, the sheer output... wouldn't trade it for anything.

Happy2bHardcore Chapter 4 was my 1st happy hardcore CD. Still play it from time to time today, along with the other chapters. So many young Americans have no idea of this series.

That compilation is an old favourite of mine. Some good stuff on there including the Vinylgroover tracks

Some people would know the piano line from a famous Jungle/ DnB tune from 1995 but I like what Vinylgroover done with it

There was so many great tracks out around 2000-2001. Nobody really plays this era which is a shame.
DJ UFO - Deep Inside
Brisk & Fade - Skillz & Stylez
Sy & Unknown - Won't You Rock With Me One Time
Scott Brown - Return to Elysium
Ham & DNA - About U
Ham - Life (Robbie Long & Devastate 2000 Update)
DJ DNA - Mother ****in' Psycho
Robbie Long & Coyote - Trauma / Big Up / Ultimate Sounds / 10-4
Fade & Dair - For Yer Face
DNA & DJ Energy - The Bastard
Knightmare & Devastate - Rude Bwoy Fassion / Sounds of Da Beast
Just a handful of tracks that were amazing at the time, that you never really hear when DJs play classic sets. Shame.

I only stumbled acorss Ham and DNA - About you a couple of years ago and was really impressed with it and feel that it should get more recognition. It is quite traditional in the Happy Hardcore sense and perhaps one of the last true releases of it's type.
I think the problem is there was no Bonkers between 2000/2001 so a lot of people assume that nothing happened. There are some 2001 releases or remixes (not all actually ever released) on Bonkers 8 & 9 and you did get the Happy 2 B Hardcore series as already mentioned but it was era that some seem to think never happened yet to be honest it was a lot better than a lot of what was to come later in the decade.
The 2008 remix of About You is actually weaker than the original

About U was pretty big at the time IIRC, I remember it featured in a lot of mixes/live sets... Great track, I think it's interesting how they built it around a few vocal snippets and never used the main chorus of the track they were taken from (compared to the usual straight rip-offs done in hardcore).

Haha i was exactly the same. I bought some tape packs in 2000 and it wasn't at all what i was used to hearing. By 2002 i was completely into the new sound.

Yeah. On this forum it was a really popular tune at the time. Actually it surprised me because i was never such a big fan of it. Definitely an original way to use the vocal though.
Two forgotten about DNA tunes that were under-rated to begin with:
It appears that both recordings of Hype The Stars is in mono. Either one uploader ripped their version for the other or, it was pressed in mono. Surely it's not pressed in mono?
