Does anyone else think this era of hardcore is a bit of an underrated gem era? Wasn't these the years hardcore was apparently dead?. Looking back on it, so many great tunes and remixes. Was just listening to scott brown @ slammin vinyl 2001. amoungst other sets from this time and it just occurred to me how unique the sound is compared to where the scene 'picked up' again in 2003+

I agree with this, certainly between 99 and 03 there were some really good sets and some great stuff being produced, up until around 06 id say was pretty decent although the sound was stating to morph by then, anyway still way way much better than all this "EDM" style shite thats being produced nowadays thats for sure .. .. ..

Some big tunes during hat time. 2002 alone had some really big stuff which really stood out. Listen Bonkers 6 - 11 and there are a lot of tracks that are worth a mention. Sharkey's Freeform was at it's peak during that time while Hixxy and the Raverbaby lot where still working on weaker stuff it was not quite as repetitive as after 2005. After that time Hardcore really started to get soft.
This one ripped from Bonkers 9 alone deserves a special mention:

There are a lot of really good tunes from 2002-2003 that are completely forgotten about now. Really good years for Hardcore.

I got into hardcore in 2002 when Bonkers 9 came out. Huge years for hardcore. Bonkers 9,10 & 11 were all amazing and the organge hardcore heaven compilation mixed by Sy and Darren Styles was one of my all time favourites.
I wouldnt say these years were underrated. Far from it. However, it was the calm before the storm of the clubland era when things really exploded.

Sorry disagree I think things got better after this period, this, to me, was like a transition period to some better tunes. Remixes were always my saviour so if a good one came about it would keep me Interested.

A lot of seriously good tunes in that mix. I always felt like Believe In Me was seriously under rated. I feel or felt like I'm the only person that likes it, which i find strange.

Yeah, I've very rarely heard it played, I think it's a great track as well!
I've got a lot of love for this era, it's when I seriously started getting into hardcore. I remember in 2000-2001 I was a bit disappointed that the older 96/97 cheese sound was going away, but 2002 onwards I loved it.
