theres alot to be said for going to an actual shop and buying your gear there. if you go in and say you have x-amount of money, they wont let you leave until they have it. ive known people get up to £100 or more off packages and even get a pair of free quality carts and replacement crossfader. you might not get a top quality package, but if they know you have money to spend and they can be flexible with the price theyll do their best to make sure you get the closest to what you want. you wont get technics, but you may get that sliightly better deck that doesn't need fixing after 6 months because it was cheaply put together.
if not, get your blagging hat on and give djstore.co.uk a call. a mate got a deal with belts so they assured him a free new belt every 6 months so his decks run pretty well 90% of the time. he also got free sennheiser headphones, £75 off the package price and a record bag. but he is very good at blagging
and try pd-1s, i dont care what anyone says they're the best budget decks i've ever used.

Thing is Scott AB have you tried mixing before and do you definately like it? If you've never tried it before then a cheap pair of belt drives would be good as if you find out you don't like it you haven't wasted too much money.
Here's a link to djstore.co.uk which lists turntable and CD deck packages below £350, loads of reviews in there to.

hmmmm, i still got my kam bdx300's, never had any trouble wit them, apart from having to give the record a wee nudge to get it into time with the other i cudnt complain wit them, but at the end of the day its up to u,
but
alot of my friends have had geminis and over time tey start to lose there pitch
but if you def like it save for technics cos your gonna end up upgrading to them, but i have no regrets wit starting out on belt drives
