I always figured 44.1 was the best. Every time I've tried different it just doesn't play.
Good little bit of info here: http://ardour.org/node/2539

You have to consider what sample rate your audio tracks are in. If your samples are 44.1 the gain from exporting in a higher rate won't be much, if any. It'll probably just affect the quality of the reverbs and plug ins but it wont make samples sound better in any way. From a technical standpoint it could be said that bit depth is more important. (I say from a "technical standpoint" since 44.1 at 16 bit resolution covers the range of what practically most human ears can hear). Cubase for example, treats every audio file in 32 bit (or at least used to pre-64bit-Cubase 5) when a process is applied. So if you're using 16 bit samples and applying changes throughout, the quality will degrade more quickly than if you convert to 32 bits and stay there until the end of the production process.

This is true.
And i didn't mean that in an arrogant way. Even the worst sound cards should be able to play back at least 48 khz.

Typically, I export my tracks at whatever bit-depth and sample rate that my session was originally started at. In rare cases, I'll export to my mastering engineer's request, but he's always OK with 24-bit/44.1kHz.
What's more important is what sample rate your session should be in. For music, you'll typically want to be in 44.1kHz or if you want "higher quality" you can work at 88.2kHz. If you're doing music for film/video then you'll want to work in 48k/96k.

It should be said though, that compared to the music itself, such details are completely insignificant.

With a sample rate of 44.1kHz, the highest possible audio frequency is 22.05kHz, according to Nyquist theory.
I also help!

I didn't read the entire topic but listenable HQ MP3 version should be 44100 Hz on 320kbps.
Higher sample rate = higher quality. I dunno all about sample rate but I believe higher sample rate requires higher bitrate to get the good quality.
Songs in professional studios, as I read somewhere, Before mastering are rendered as 24-bit WAV files with 96000 Hz sample rate. It's extreme quality, but u need a great soundcard to play that.

Any sound card should play that these days. Unless you are using an onboard sound card, but they are awful so can't really expect much from them.

Mine is Realtek High Definition audio I think. It plays 24-bit, 48000 Hz.
EDIT: Of course you can play, I tried it on my old PC, but if it's too high then it sounds like crap.
