Just on a side note I think you should include actual techno in that list to make it very clear that it's a sub-genre and not the name of the genre itself if you know what I mean?
But if I we're making this flash before ever reading this thread (Which has just confused me) I would have put it like this...
Hardcore>Gabber>Hardstyle>Jumpstyle
But then I also would have been a bit torn cause I also thought of it like this...
Hardcore>Gabber
Hardstyle>Jumpstyle
As in that hardstyle was a separate genre and jumpstyle was a sub-genre.
Oh it's very confusing...

yep techno is in the list as a major sub-genre of dance, edited previous post...knew i would forget something - and it was only the biggest one to forget in a situation like this haha
lots of sources on the internet seem to agree that jumpstyle is a sub-genre of trance...
see, and if people are happy with that then it makes it very simple as Hardstyle its own genre, jumpstyle off to the side underneath trance...jumpstyle does seem to have its crossovers with trance or perhaps bouncey house than hardstyle..

Here you go :
The music which accompanies Jumpstyle is an offspring of Happy Hardcore and Gabber. Its tempo is usually between 140 and 150 BPM. However, it cannot be seen as merely a slowed down version of gabber. It is characterized by a 909 kick drum used in a 4 to the floor beat. It also has influences from Chicago House. Because of the big hype around the dance and music style itself in 2007 and 2008, it suffers from image-problems in especially The Netherlands. Because of this, the euphoric/melodic Jump like it was made around 2006 till 2008 is not being released anymore these days. However, there are still some radio stations left, broadcasting Jump in its traditional form. The oldest Jump radio was founded in 2005 and still exists today under the name of JumpStation.FM.

is good information, but that is refering to jumpstyle as in its original sense of the word ie: jumpstyle being a type of dancing (hense them saying "the music that accompanys jumpstyle")...which doesnt really help on the genre front that much as its clear that Hardstyle is a well established genre unto itself
but the type of music you "jumpstyle" to....that isnt hardstyle...but lighter and cheesyer is also refered to as "jumpstyle"
if they stopped calling the type of music jumpstyle and just classed it all as hardstyle (with both cheesy and hard end of the spectrums) that would make this much easyer!
then "jumpstyle" could just be the form of jumping/dancing and not a wierd hybrid genre that just sounds like cheesy/lighter hardstyle
im really not trying to "change" anything, just make things clearer for someone who has little to no idea about dance music.....the sort of person who is just going to look at it and say "**** this, it all sounds the same" lol
i can understand them saying that Hardstyle Vs Jumpstyle
but harder to say that house Vs DnB
on a personal note i just dont see there being enough a wide gap between HS and JS for them to be justifed as separate genres
much like Happy Hardcore and Freeform, enough difference to be sub-genres under one "hardcore" but not enough for them to really be separate genres
pigeon holeing is all well and good...up to a point
im not trying to disprove or proove anyone here - its just an interesting debate :)

It is an interesting debate alright. One that will most likely not come to a conclusion
It think for simplicity and since the chart is for people who don't know dance music anyway I think it would be easier to just leave jumpstyle out of the major sub-genres and just include hardstyle. Is jumpstyle really that big a genre like? And for people who don't know dance music so well they're both really going to sound too alike to tell apart.

its a pretty big genre in eastern europe and i dont want to fustrate anyone, because i know there will be a flood of emails if it isnt on there
im pondering just throwing it under trance and leaving it at that as thats what a blanket opinion on the net seems to be after googling an awful lot!

Yea I agree, it should just be called Hardstyle.. There's enough difference between Breaks and Gabber, however both are subgenres of Hardcore Techno, so why not Jumpstyle be a part of Hardstyle??

hehe yea wierd i know
wiki says "Jumpstyle originated in 1997 in Belgium"
and says this about hardstyle "place of origin is believed to be the Netherlands[citation needed], where the first hardstyle events started near the end of 1999 and the beginning of 2000"
*throws hands in the air*
