if you were making a music genre map - better than ishkars, for someone who had never experienced dance music....and you didnt want to confuse them

would you put jumpstyle as a subgenre of hardstyle

or would you put hardstyle as a subgenre of jumpstyle

personally, i would put jumpstyle as a sub-genre of hardstyle, hardstyle being the main genre... but i thought i would ask some hardstyle/jump listeners :)

Wow sub-genres are intricate. I never linked hardstyle with hard trance before. More recently I've though of it as its own sub-genre of dance music. If anything I would have thought it originated from gabber.

Well, Hardstyle is produced the same way as Hard Trance, it's very similar. I would put JumpStyle as a sub-genre of Hardstyle but I wouldn't call Hardstyle a sub-genre of Hard Trance … I also don't call Breakbeat Hardcore a sub-genre of Drum & Bass, if you see what I mean.

Anyway, I don't like JumpStyle, I think it sounds.. eghh.. I read on wikipedia that it has influences from Happy Hardcore. Probably the 'funny' clown melodies . I also don't like Hardstyle, well there's some good tunes, but what I usually don't like is the distorted part, it's not 'hard' imo … it's just loud, lol. And even if it was, I wouldn't really like it :)

see im having issues here

Jumpstyle ..stylisticly sounds just like hardstyle except nowhere near as hard - the kick drum tends to be the same, the BPM the same..the same bounce to it...just not as hard as hardstyle

now wikipedia - i know not always the best source for information, but it tends to constantly edited to the point where everybody pretty much agrees with what it says

wiki says Hardstyle is a sub-genre of Hard Dance...which has its origins in Jumpstyle! and hard dance of course is a "sub-genre" of Dance music.....

but it doesnt give Jumpstyle a subgenre - and just says that it has origins in gabber (which is what it also says about hardstyle.

the issue im having is..that i dont entirely care - BUT for the sake of this "Music Map" as it were....its tricky working out where to put them

as it is, if you have never heard dance music before and you play DnB next to a piece of house music, you can easily hear the difference and its not confusing

but you play a piece of Jumpstyle next to a piece of say "lighter" hardstyle and the differences become blurred, and anyone new to it who is learning the major genres (house, trance, drum n bass, hardcore etc etc) finds it a trickyer job and it starts to look like your just making up names because the type of music is just a softer version of the piece before it in the same style...

theres perhaps somthing in this "Hard Dance" sphere here which perhaps may solve a few of these issues in the layout of the flash animation....but i really dont want to confuse people

it would just be easier if Jumpstyle was a sub-genre of Hardstyle - but i dont make the rules but at the same time i dont want this flash to be "genre crazy" and just plain confusing.

all people need to know in order to stop calling everything techno is the main genres - and who to tell REAL techno from say...Happy hardcore.

ok ok (and sorry if anyone is typing a post to help me out on this one) i want to add

the wiki page for Hardstyle used to say Hardstyle was a Sub-Genre of Hard Dance

now the issue here is that "Hard Dance" is a blanket term for a grouping of several styles of Dance music - it is not a genre!

so musically where do you lump Hardstyle and Jumpstyle...

say if i list the big electronic/dance genres as they are in this thread....

Chillout
House
Trance
Hardstyle
Jumpstyle
Drum N Bass
Hardcore

do you see what i mean here....the differences in the major styles being major in both BPM and stylistcally, then you have hardstyle and jumpstyle throwing a spanner in the works
a person will be able to hear a massive difference between House and Hardcore....but hardstyle and jumpstyle..you would have to sit there and explain for days before it sank it, but thats not the aim of this...
and you cant just go leaving out two popular genre's/subgenres
