I was just wandering that how is the 'donk' sound created or were can you maybe get a preset for it.
Is it possible to create it on Reason 3? Remember I'm pretty much a retard when it comes to Reason

theres been loads of posts about this if you have a look about mate....
most of them by me ..damn catchy scouse donkness
its an fm bass....best bet is to use a v-station....
think hard2get has a bangin preset if you ask him nicely.
although think most crap scouse producers use the same ripped sample.
some1 once told me the original came from a juno i think it was....mmmmm interesting!

ya a thought that too owen bud...
but a dont have a scooby about too much hardware....so a basicly just said 'ohhhhhhhh em kool' and smiled like this
thinking more about it...i doubt it...
but it must have came from somewhere....as most of em sound exactly the same...
would be cool to know where it came from....not just what synth but what tune did it first (be it klubbheads or something)...as it pretty much defines a whole music genre now.

By the way the file is a combinator file, and it works on version 3, but i cannot be sure if it will work on older versions of reason

I did some research last night...
The original donk came off a Yamaha DX7 (the most popular FM synthesizer ever!). It's one of the original patches, "Xylophone", I believe. I got hold of the original DX7 soundbank and went through every patch, and "Xylophone" near the end was the only one that sounded like it could have been used as a donk without loads of processing. I did have to compress it and boost the bass a little to get it to sound useable, but even then it sounded a bit thin. It sounded like an oldskool donk (if there is such a thing), rather than a more typical modern donk you might find in a Scouse House tune. I think if you sampled it and played around with it, you could get some mad sounds, but I'm going to experiment with recreating the donk on my Virus to see if I can get a more modern sound.
Wish me luck! :)
