I want your TV. I only have 21" :(
I think you have 1 "box" and its made to look like theres 4 "boxes".
Usually the one where you can choose the audio, tape etc and radio are in the same "box". In "regular" sound systems the Amplifier is also in the same box. Where you have them in 3 diffrent ones. Anyway steal the sound system :)

They are stereos here :) Anyway mini systems have radio/tape/CD etc in one box and it has speakers. Most of the new mini systems have audio input, so you can connect your mixer to it. Not the best sound quality, but good enough. Well if you have one, then you'll know what the sound quality is like.

Jeez, lol, i dont think anything anyones said about an amp has helped you.

Best looking in the paper under the second hand gear or sumit, try ebay too, i have had two amps from there and they have been realli good.

Before you buy an amp though you have too think whether or not you want two or four speakers in your room. If you want 4 you need an 8 channel amp (4 positive outputs and 4 negative on the back of it)

You then need too look at the wattage of the amp as you cant buy a 100watt per channel amp, and the onli have 10 watt speakers as your amp will blow them. And vicer versa (lol did i spell it right) You cant have a 100watt per channel amp and have 1000watt speakers. as they will not be gettin powered and more than likely your amp will overheat constantly and cut out even on the lowest volume.

Idealy you would want a 100-200watt per channel amp and 100-150watt speakers.

As for makes, try Technics,Marantz(good ones)......Gemini(reasonable) .....for a cheap one try goodmans or aiwa.

Any other questions just ask/pm me.

Adam

^^ Yea or maby she should just get Highend equipment while shes at it.
For a 14 year old, i say best amp would be a 5.1 from e.g. Sony 400 serie. A it's cheap, B she can get the surround sound for movies later if she wants, C It can handle all speakers she can afford, 100W is enough.
I have like 80W speakers on a 100W amp. they are more powerful then my ears can handle (without the sound quality getting weaker). Its much more wiser to get smaller good speakers. Then stare how many watts they have, they dont mean anything for the sound quality.

If you want a good set of speakers for your room get a little set of mission or acoustic sound speakers both excellent bedroom speakers load & clear with a good range. (Dont buy second hand speakers without testing them thoroughly my mate done that with some 18 inch peevy's and had to re-cone them expensive mistake!) Try and stay away from cheep amps as well they don't last long better to pay for a decent one first time round. And someone said above to make sure your amp is powerful enough to power your speakers but (but not way over the power needed) very important a good shop will help you find a good pairing.

Yeah, so what about Gemini's X-1 AMP?
It's 220 Watts and here is it's description...
[Stereo power amps with power-on, signal LED, clip LED and protect LED indicators on front panel
Cooling fan with front-to-rear air flow
Inputs: 1/4" balanced/unbalanced and RCA unbalanced
Outputs: 5-way binding posts
Power protection circuitry
Switchable 110-120V / 220-240V 60Hz/50 Hz AC
Size: 19"w x 3.5"h x 10.75"d.]

I don't know how many channels it has though.
And I'd only be planning to have 2 speakers, not 4 speakers...

Isnt that for a rack? Also its just an amp, i still think you should get an "all around" amp that works with all things you might need in the future... Unless your rich an can afford to buy stuff when you want them.

I have a Sony STR-DE675

It has all I need, Optical inputs for my MD Deck and DVD. 5.1 (2*Front, 2*Rear, Center and Subwoofer) system to get the surround sound for the movies, much better then 2 speaker system. Screw Terminals for speaker connection. Basicly it was the cheapest model from Sony, that still had the functions i needed.

A newer model of that would be Sony STR-DE697 (~300$) has almoust the same functions.

I'm not saying that would be the best for you, but ive had about 4 diffrent amps, and i'm very happy with this one. Has all the things i need. Used to have an cheaper/older model from Sony too, but i gave it to my mom.

So would I have to search under: Stereo/Video Receiver or something?
And what is an amp for anyways?

Basicly when you use e.g. a CD player, it gives a very weak signal. The amplifier makes the signal more powerful, the bigger the speakers are the more powerful the signal has to be. Yea that one i suggested was a receiver (not sure of that word, as i've seen several diffrent ones used). When i bought mine, i think it sayd on the box AM/FM Receiver.
