Sennheisser HD202 (£20) are pretty good for starting out with in the bedroom. Nicest bass response I've heard below £50

I have Sennheiser's HD280s which cost 70 quid in black and 80 quid in silver I actually ordered the black ones cause I look for performance not looks, but they sent me the silver ones by mistake (Thanks HTFR) and still charged me 70! (I was'nt complaining)

As for their performance there out of this world I have dropped them, stood on them, split drink on them (not on purpose) and there still as good as when I bought them. I use them for djing out and you can stick the volume right up on them and still here the beats perfectly not that you would need them right up full volume cause these beasts would ****ing blow your ear drums to pieces!!

I would recommend these to anybody thinking of getting headphones for the bedroom or the club!!

the sony's rock, for any headphones it's best to make sure that the cups are secure and not going to break on you (i have one pair break 3 times before i got the sonys). swivel cups go a long way for a little extra cash

I've had a few friends complain about the sonys breaking on them.

most of the larger swivel cupped headphones i don't care for because they flop around too much.

my sudgestion would be go to a store that sells higher end headphones and try them on before you buy them. some of the newer headphones don't have as much padding on the top of the head and hurt after awhile of wearing.

The 700s..... they're fine for in the bedroom (providing you look after them) but when you start taking them out..... I think the 500s are a bit tougher

Lad I know plays out with Kindergarten, got through 2 sets in as many months, then gave up and got a set of Pioneers I think they were.... not had a problem since..... I'll check with him which they were next time hes in.

The ones my mate got which he absolutely loves are the Pioneer HDJ1000s..... they're a tad expensive though (roughly £130), but have a nicer top end than the sonys. The sonys are better in the bass department though, so I guess it depends wether you prefer to mix witht eh bass end or the top end.

Also, on the Sony front, I believe they have modified the design to stop the arms (is that the right term for the side bits?) breaking so often..... so they are probably all cool now
