there really is no 'best' gear. it depends on what kind of stuff you want to produce, what sounds you want to make, and what style of hardcore you like.

ask producers of tunes you like what they used to make it. most of the time they will tell you what they used to make particular sounds.

your basic stuff would be like a roland tr 909, a juno of some sort and something like cubase or logic. look at sites like quosh and nextgen in their studio section to get an idea of setups.

i'm most interested in producing trancey style hardcore, the style like plus system and breeze and styles, would the roland jp 8000 or the juno 106 suit this syle? which is better?

What Scott Brown uses as one of his synth layers is the Access Virus C. I'd suggest picking one of those up first.

The virus is great for more agresive sounds etc, so thats one for your shoppin glist (I'm after one too!) The JP8000 is also a great synth... fantastic for trancey sounds etc. I personally wouldn't recommend the MC909... a bit too "mix-by-numbers" for my liking, but it may suit you, I dunno. For drums get yourself a decent sampler. Of course all of this can be done inside a computer with the right sequencer and plugins. Plugins I would reccoment are Kontakt (sampler), Pro-53 (synth), V-Station (another synth) and whatever effects you use (I tend to use the ones built into Logic mostly)

I agree, Underloop. One of my favorite artists only uses software and plugins. That's it! And his stuff is amazing to say the least.

if you want to get hardware synths the roland jp8080 is a far choice. The Access Virus C is great too.

how much money are you willing to spend?

I have plenty of Reason patches man.

You can get some from other songs (try reasonstation.net). If you want something - tell me!

Me too FL Studio rocks!!

Great thing is it's pretty inexpensive for what you get too.

The standard Vst's are pretty powerful & there's loads of effects, but you can download loads of freeware Vst's & patches which are being released all the time.

Another great way to get cheap music are the sample CD's, pricey at times (around £30-£100 sterling), but royalty free & can be mashed up to sound original.

Bring the noize!!

There seems to be a funny inverse ratio:

The easier a program is too use, the harder it is to get some done properlly with it.

I say that because I had some track which I wrote in like a day with FL, but then once remade in Cubase, the quality in comparison was insane.

I've got a stack of patches and samples that you'll like - just PM
