I'm not exactly new to music production. Just new to the 'scene'. Everything I know about making music I learned myself through trial and error. So, my vocabulary is a bit lacking. That's going to make this question harder to ask. Try 'n' bare with me. x:

Christmas is comin' up, and I'm thinking about getting a synthesizer.

I use FruityLoops Studio 5 for my music, and a few hand-me-down synthesizers. I'm basically looking for some synthesizers that I could use with FruityLoops that will help give my music that Happy Hardcore feel.

Right now I've got the NI FM7, Novation V-Station, and the ReFX Vanguard.

Also, any suggestions on how to use the synthesizers above (or the ones you recommend) better would also be appreciated.

I have V station & Vanguard and have also found the superwave range (performer, Pro and Trance) very useful.

I am currently trying to find some reading material on synths so if I dig up any gems I'll post titles here.

OOO Yeah free ones.

ReFx Claw - not that good but can do some bleeps that work quite well for hardcore.

Superwave P8 - Very good for a free-B.

Thanks, everyone for the replies.

@zippy: I actually tried out the z3ta+ before at a friends house. Thought it was pretty neat. I looked up the nOVAkILL synthesizers as well, but when I unrarred 'em and didn't see a .DLL I decided to hold off on 'em for now. It's late, and I don't feel much like reading instructions. :p I'll give it another shot tomorrow.

@bulby_g: I got the ReFX Claw, and the Superwave P8 for now. They look promising. Thanks for the recommendations. (:

@Brian K: I was actually looking at the Virus a while back, but I'm not ready to take the leap toward hardware synthesizers yet. If the virus had a good software synthesizer, I might be able to go for that. But hardware is kind of intimidating.

@dj bugbear: I looked up the Cubease on Google, and the pictures seemed very confusing. I'm still very much a newbie when it comes to synthesizers and plug-ins, so I don't know if I'd be able to make much use of the Cubase.

(Off topic, somewhat:)
While I'm looking for synthesizers, I have a question about a certain one in particular. I don't know what to call it, or how to explain it really. The closest I can get to defining it would be strings sound mixed with a bit of pad and some lead. x: It's used in a lot of the trance I've heard, and a good deal of hardcore as well. The song with the best example of what I'm talking about would be Coast2Coast - Home. It has a "Dzschh" sort of sound to it. Not like my attempt at typing sound effects is going to help... <.< Anyways, if you have any guesses as to what syntesizer it is I'm talking about, info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

@bulby_g: Jp8000, eh? I looked it up, and only found a hardware synthesizer. :\ I don't suppose there's a software synthesizer that can produce the same (or similar) sound, is there?

@zippy: As great as that plan was, it didn't work. Tried it before I went to bed last night. ;p

Edit:
I just heard the synth on the happyhardcore stream. Don't know the song, since it was in a mix. But its lyrics were something like: "Me and you, the day you left me far behind", and then "DJ in the club, spin the record back and forth" during DJ Lord's Upfront Vol II mix.

Those all seem like really nice synths, only, as far as I can tell they're all hardware synths. :
I'm not ready to get into hardware. I couldn't even figure out the wiring for Reason when I tried it out. I know I'm missing out, but for now I'd like to stick with software. Any of those come in a software format? :P

(Also, is the term for software synth VST? x:)
