my question is should i record my samples(synths, etc) into wav or mp3?
at the moment i am recording into 320k mp3, will it be better in the end to do all with wav, or is there no difference(other than space)?

wav is a better sound quality.

wav compromises storage size for sound quality
mp3 compromises sound quality for storage space.

I agree with you on that

Recorded a vinyl to the highest quality wav file you can in soundforge for Luna-c and the two tracks wouldn't fit on to 1 cd

you were probably trying to burn it as an information cd.
Music cds only depend on the track length where as information cds depend on the files sizes.

wavs are the best way to go if you can, simple as that. there are the uncompressed recordings and you really can't get much better than that.

He would of had to burn a data cd to keep the audio quality he recorded at, CD's only support 16bit 44.100hz, Depending on the audio interface he used, he might have recorded at 32bit float 192.000hz, and an 8 minute track at that would be 500 to 600mb+ easy.

I agree with everyone else, wav is the way to go. Even though wav isn't the best quality out there (it's still compressed), you can't really tell the difference between wav and a better format. 44.100 with 16 bit is just fine.

I recommend saving your money and getting an external hard drive. They are getting a lot cheaper and with many you can connect through USB or firewire. Sometimes I'll make a song with all the wav files and everything, it may end up being 3gigs! My next step is to get a DVD burner so I can archive my projects.

Just remember that you can always sample down, but you can't make it sound better than the original. It's a matter of the quality sound you want and how much space you have for it.

since wave's a lossless or uncompressed (but there exists compressed version, but those are same as mp3) since there is no loss on frequencies (even if you can hear them all)

Which would have been a stupid thing to do because it goes to the mastering house according to the red book cd standard (44.1khz 16bit). And comes out the same way.

Unless you are an elitist, stick to 44.1khz and 16bit.
