ska came before reggae with ppl like desmond decker and the skatalites etc. almost all modern ska bares no relation to reggae.
Does ne1 here know howards alias? awesome ska punk band, definitely worth checkin out

Real old original Ska originated from reggae and jamaican music, it was just by white men! nowadays punk bands have taken the reggae theme and made it modern ska, my ska is not what my dad calls ska etc etc blar de blah

Seems to be a bit of confusion as to whats ska here. Ska is almost a white mans reggae but it has its own little sounds that are use frequently as with most genres and there is also 2 tone which came later this is a bit punky. What alot of you are talking about is ska/punk & punk which is not ska, bands like less than jake rancid nofx etc etc etc.
ps. The original ska sound is still being done today.

Kathryn it vary's can be slow or fast-ish definately not fast in comparison to hardcore or anything like that and not hard or banging no. Think reggae with some amusing lyrics some crazy brass and some guy making percussion noises with his mouth.

AAAAHHH!!! thankyou emmy uve made my day bright again! ska is definitely not what ud call banging like banging in terms of dance music. Its fcukin good fun tho, if ne1 who hasnt already gets the chance to go to a ska gig then do it, get pissed dance like a twat to jolly music n all that, nowt finer im tellin ya (apart from maybe proper hard beats n big euphoric breakdowns  )
