With Essex police breaking up an illegal rave involving 600 revellers on the August bank holiday weekend, does it mean the rave scene is back in fashion?

I do hope not!

Before we know it, we'll have attracted every crusty, new age travelling anarchist for miles around!

Pisses me off when i see stuff like this cos all it ends up doing is making the Hardcore scene (to which these illegal raves have little or no connection), look really bad.

There wouldn't be a riot if the police raided HTID or Uproar! These kind of raves - while often cool, also attract a bad element too.
- A bit like a music version of extremist groups attaching themselves to peaceful protests.

Free parties and warehouse raves etc are really good when done well - a load of drugged up knobheads causing trouble in a field is a million miles away from what i'd call a good weekend!

Ey up, I'm off to bake some Hovis and get a cup of tea and smoke my pipe whilst pondering which pigeons to enter in the next race

Same in Dorset! Everyone is sick of the violence in the clubs and the 'dance' music in clubs being stale that these 'Traditional' raves are apearing in the rural parts of the county! I am not saying where these are but I might be going on Friday to one! I too feel part of something at these and although there isn't many people there, it is still exciting!

I am now 19 and have bearly set foot in a club because of the fear of assult which I seem to be prone too! At these raves it is organised well and safe so where is the problem? Oh that's right it is illigel but if these went mainstream then many a burnt out stolen car would be left on a field after thugs want to be part of the latest 'craze'

I am not a clubber, I am a raver and might not go to hardcore Heaven, HTID or whatever is big- I go to a 'traditional' rave!

*Awaits many replies from other ravers!* I am not saying HTID isn't a rave but it isn't in a field is it?

See smoog that is the case at some free parties but not others.

Theres loads that have a good crowd and although theres some weirdos you are safe to have a good time and enjoy yourself.

One came nearby to where i lived in scotland and i can only say it was immense. Good couple of my mates from college love it and have found good ones and i no bulby likes them.

But i've heard some bad things about a few around london area, gangs comin to rob people and steal the systems. Then jus junkies shootin up scag, some people dont mind it but i dont wanna be there myself.

Free ravers in general are easy targets for violent people who'll be happy to use weapons to get what they want.

You say your prone to assault so without spoling your fun, just be careful you dont lose your guard 100% as it's rarely all good people at any party

I'll quote that bit as well!

In no way are illegal raves safer than properly organised events.

End of!

These illegal raves will start off with all like-minded people, but once word gets out you don't know what nob heads are gonna turn up. It's all gonna depend on image as to wether these will be successful imo, if they get a 'hippy' image then all the better - nob heads won't want to go and the real ravers won't care, but if all the 'clubland' types get in on it, it will be shite... influx of 16 year olds who can't handle their beer, to be honest when I was that age I probably would of been one of them :p

a good chunk of parties here are illegal, people seem to frown when you say you're holding raves =P

sucks because if you tell them straight up what you want to do, they say no. lie to the venue owner and then he finds out, then he gets mad and calls the cops =P

i no what u mean. i've tried to organise events down here, and anyone who has a decent venue wouldnt dream of hiring i out all night for a party.
which, in turn, means that that parties hav to be in more out of the way locations so they dont get broken up by cops.
dont really hav any trouble over here as far as ppl causing problems tho. most ravers no each other (either directly or thru friends) and while there may be some emo wanker who come to shoot up etc, they generally tend to not bother ppl and are quite clean about disposing of things.

Back in fashion? That's hilarious. I have noticed more and more pricks turning up at ones down our way though which is a real shame.

Smoogie - As has already been said, free parties are in no way safer than legal parties. More people get mugged at free parties from what I've seen over the years and I've seen people beaten shitless which I've never seen at a legal rave. Some are allot worse than others though... Stay out of London squat parties for starters if your not prepared to spend the night looking over your shoulder. I should imagine most inner city illegal raves would be the same, your best off in the countryside.
