I can't quite rememer what VST stands for (Virtual Studio Something??)

But it is a technology that allow instruments (VSTi's) and effects to communicate to a host.

Like you can open Cubase and use the Junglist (a VSTi) in it. And you could put some effects via the VST interface.

Hope that makes some sense.

Virtual STudio instrument is what VSTi stands for. A VSTi is a windows interface DLL (collection of functions) that in some way processes sound for a VSTi-capable host (much like a winamp plugin.) A VSTi will, in most cases, generate sound because it's on the instrument end of things, but there's also VST effects plugins that can be used to modify sounds. In addition to the VST standard, pro tools has its own standard (I want to say KVR but that sounds very, very wrong) for plugins that's a bit more versatile, but don't produce them as much (and they only run in pro tools!) However, I believe the Access Virus virtual instrument will be in KVR format, so hopefully it will become more globally accepted in the near future. Either that, or Access will realize that VST is still more widely accepted and code for both platforms!

I always thought VST stood for Virtual Studio Technology (Instrument) :)

Knowing nothing as I do about production, my first guess would've been Venereal Sexually Transmitted Infection.
