^^^^Why does everyone think that techniks are so good. There are a lot of good turntables out there at the mo and to be honest they are all good. Im not saying that Techs are bad. Im just saying that there are other turntables that are just as good. It all depends on what you feel comfortable with. For me thast the Numarks

I also think it comes down to what you like to use...again go to your local shop and try all the top lof the line decks out and see which one you like the best...it's your money not ours...

Other turntables just aint as good as technics IMO, they are close, some have more features but at the end of the day technics are the ferrari of turntables and they perform flawlessly time after time.

That's not really a valid reason though is it?

TTX-1's are a better deck. No two ways about it. More torque, better tracking, better noise reduction and anti-drag platters. That's without mentioning the "Useless features". If you wanna pay £900 for a pair of decks that aren't as good as the Numarks then go right ahead but you're only buying outdated technology.

It's not even like technics are built well anymore. I see just as many sent back to the suppliers as vestax.

- The build quality is no longer what it was due to mass production
-all the aforementioned decks have straight tone arms and thus avoid the awful tracking of technics.

I'd say MK2's are still good value for money and especially second hand but if you are buying brand new then shop around and get TTX-1s for the same price and you can set them up to behave almost the same as technics.

But to be honest it's all about CD decks.

well personally ... i havent tried the other dex .. so i cant comment..but evryone has said to me the TTX-1s are almost/just as good as technics...BUT in a club i bet alot of djs wouldnt be happy to use them as technics are the standard and wat u would expect

But that's just crap. Why should you buy technics just because they are what clubs use? By using decks with more features you give yourself the opportunity to make demos that standout more. Plus they are more fun to use.

And for them being "almost as good". They are as good if not better. The spec beats technics on every category the only thing is they have to prove their longevity. If you've handled them and seen how they're buitl then you'll see.

tbh though I say screw turntables! i can't wait for a digital music interface that is revolutinary in the way that it moves away from conventional ideas and is truly tactile! I mean is it really nesecary to hav a spinning/ static disc? Could there be a better option.

^^^ A standard is much better than owning the best equipment out there. If your old enough remember Beta video's?

I think your point is valid about making a demo, but what happens when you get your first gig and you can not do any of those things on the equipment at the venue you are playing? Take that a step further... what if you can't DJ using the equipment in the club? Your demo aint going to save you then...

Standards are rubbush. They hold back progression.

If you can't adapt to different kit then you shouldn't be playing out. Simple as. The thing is all decks are essentially the same in the way they work and how they are laid out. Spinning platter, start/stop, pitch control and 33/45 buttons. If you can't get your head round that then you haven't got a chance.

Take mixers. Different brans are laid out very differently but everyone manages to deal with that.

I've never owned technics and felt very comfortable switching between different types.

^^^ Standards might be rubbish but you can't stop them becoming a standard. I agree with you about being able to use anything out there, but then again when your DJing you dont have the time to screw around with features your not really sure what they do :)

In Japan I DJ on a brand new mixer nearly every 3 months, and I have to get used to them, some I feel are better than others, that is why I like SL1200's, Pioneer CD decks and Vestax mixers the best. I find them all to be the best quality and most reliable. That is what I like... whatever you like is upto you.
