Personnally i have a couple of phat warfedale monitor speakers connected staraight to my amp. Sounds like you dont have an amp though.

Id check what wattage your stereo speakers are and what amp it has and then look into getting new speakers. Or spend a bunch of money and get new speakers and a good amp. Dont link both monitors and standard speakers to the stereo though, Or at least i wouldnt. Your stereo speakers will probably be about as good as the numark ones anyway and if not then the amp probably ent good enough so that would be more important.

Hope that helps a bit

the system and speakers should be fine and loud enough. don't bother blowing money on a new set of speakers,i'd put it away towards vinyl.

and if you do decide to buy them speakers, you'll need an amp as well.

Monitor speakers are used to listen to the tunes whilst mixing. You listen though the next tune in your headphones and mix it into the tune playing in the monitors. They are used in clubs to have speakers close up to the dj without any delay effect to mix into.

At home its not important coz your stereo speakers wont have any delay anyway so they will be fine to mix with. If you want other speakers youd be getting them coz of the better sound quality but then you might aswell disconnect the other ones. If you get new speakers you will need an amp that can handle them. There simply wouldnt be any point in buying new speakers and connecting them to your stereo coz youl probably get a really poor bass etc. The amp in your stereo wont be strong enough.

If your looking at a new amp then the gemini is pretty good for the price. I have the x3 myself which is more than capable of handeling my 200 watt speakers. :)
