Where can I find some?

I've found a tool http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/audio/vremover.htm Analog-X Dx Vocal remover, and its sweet (can some-one tell me how to get the URL working properly?).

But how can I extract vocals from tracks?

Hiya mate,

To start off with, you need to have access to the original CD or vinyl for this to work (MP3 compression changes the structure of the audio and produces poor results when usingthis technique). Its also worth noting that this technique doesn't *always* work and it can be tricky to get it right anyway.

you need to take a copy of the full track (complete with vocals) along with a copy of the instrumental (which needs to be exactly the same as the full track only minus the vox). Invert the phase of the instrumental, and layer the instrumental and full track in a prog like cubase or cool edit or whatever you use. Frame shift the instrumental until the instrumental tracks cancel each other out.

This doesn't always work wonderfully well, but it can do enough sometimes for remix purposes. With a bit of polishing of the resulting file it can be useable.

Failing that, pop down your local record store and have a dig through the DJ Tools/Acapella section, you never know it may have been released as a pella already!

Hope this helps,

Matthew aka DJ Underloop

hm... very interesting technique.

I'll have to try it out. I've got some chill-out CD's which have some sweet vocals.

Some vinyls have acapella but they always come at a price, meaning if you use them the label can just claim ownership of the tracks as it is their vocals. I recommend you record your own.

As for the vocals, i was having a chat with DNA about that same topic the other day. He said its a huge hassel to get liscenced vocals for any use. I would have agree with silver on the record your own, or at least write your own and find some one who can sing and have them record it. I can sing, so thats what im doing, but well people dont have intrest in HAppy HArdcore Vocal Idol.

I find that, especially here in Scotland, using acapellas while mixing live is what the crowd want. Not really heard a lotta hardcore with acapellas but at the moment I use a lotta dance acapellas when I'm mixing hard trance and commercial trance for example 666-Supa dupa fly(Bass up to the top),Floorfilla-Anthem 2,Klubbheads-Kickin' hard etc.The only hardcore acapellas I think I have is Ultimate Buzz feat.MC Bee-On a mission and a makina tune called Russians by Michelle sumthin-or-another.
