about £100 difference, a piece of plastic round the on/off so u dont accidentally turn it off....worth approximately 7 pence. a hole where u can slot in a spare cartridge incase u lose the one attached to the arm worth.....£0. supposedly there are a few minor motor changes but they are so minor no one would ever notice. i find the bit round the on/off incredibly annoying aswell. so all in all ur being ripped off. the mk5g's are the same aswell apart from they have an *attractive* gold glitter finish, for the gay dj's. technics will try to charge about £100 more than 1210's for mk3's and about £200 more for mk5g's.
dont be fooled

Actually, the motor difference IS noticable... in the m3d the starting torque is lower but the overall torque of the motor is a tad higher, so the M3d is a better choice for scratching IMO. I can't confirm that but that's how it feels to me having used both.
EDIT: The power switch guard doesn't work - my hand hits it when I scratch sometimes (the part at the bottom of my thumb) and turns the power off anyway. BUT... don't forget that the pitch control isn't notched in the M3d and that it DOES have the quartz control which... while useless in most cases... can make a good pitch bend button ;)

whether a dance dj would need +- 50% pitch is questionable, same with most other features on the pdx2000 and 2300, the motor is a good bit more powerful and you do notice it but seen as the technics already has enough power to deal with whatever you throw at it id still go with a 1210, also the vestax just doesnt have that solid feel that its going last because the outer case is made of plastic and is easy to scratch if u have a mixer next to it (im taking it u will have a mixer next to it heh). another problem is that on occasion they have a problem with vibrating because the motor is fastened to the platter and directly underneath it. ALSO, alot of clubs dont use them because they dont have the same sound isolation capabilities that technics have beacuse they dont have the rubber bass and the feet arent quite as good meaning sometimes they can feed back on a large system like in a club unless they are on concrete and foam or flightcases or whatever.
the new numarks have the same features as the vestax plus they have a better rubber base, but you's have to put up with the stigma of owning numarks and i havent had a shot on em yet so i dont know how good they really are.

From using my friend's Numark TT X-1's and reading the specs...check them out (Online and in the shops)... don't know about if they'll last as long as 1200's but the touque is very high, and the pich controll is great...

if your going to be mixing, as in beat matching tunes and ****ing round with the faders/eq/whatever.
ONLY get technics.
the wow and flutter on them is the lowest out of all the decks and hence what makes them kick ass (in lames terms, its how far the pitch will drift on the tt, i think its 0.1 for the 1200). if a mix ****s up you know its you and not your decks...to me, thats what makes them the best and always will be. unless of course another company can make their decks even more accurate, but in over 30 years many have tried, but none have succeeded
the ttx1 and the pdx2000 offer way more for a turntablist, but if your on this site as you are, i highly doubt your going to just juggle or scratch to hardcore...so get techies!

Technics (All ver) = Quality
Vestax (All ver) = Plastic
Vestax has more features but most are pointless. Backwards play for that 'clear the niteclub in two minutes' effect. +/- 50% pitch for when you wanna make elvis sound like a chipmunk.
IMO, any model of the 1200 family is my choice. The newest MK5's have a switchable 8/16 % picth, which is fine. A button to turn the pictch fader on/off (Sure it has another point tho!). The only think that Technics are missing out on, is detachable phono and power leads. I've lost count on the number of times I have crushed leads and phono sockets in flight cases!
Oh yeah and the M3D upwards has 'no hinge' lids.
Mostly harmless...

take it from me,i got more posts than anyone apart from silver lol
don't get vestax, don't get numark, don't get technics mk2's or even mk3's for that matter.
you want 1200's/1210's mk5g's. best decks around and i say no more.
for the record there is no difference in the motors on the mk2/mk3. i have the mk3's but regularly spin on mk2's and they're the same record deck apart from the pitch reset button, cartridge holder and recessed on/off switch. i've no idea if the mk5's have a better motor, never been on them. but they have double pitch and look a hell of a lot better. you'll have more friends and pull more birds if ya have mk5's hehe*
*disclaimer....i gave you the advise so if ya get too many birds feel free to send a few my way lol

they do look really nice (I think they JUST started to come into the US market)...but aren't they a lot more in price...I've only seen them online selling for $799 a deck and up...it's it worth it??? (I'm not being cheap, but is the MK5 is a lot better then the MK2/MK3??? and why???)
