Hello all!!
Jon Sharkey here!!
Thought I would touch down with all the music makers on this forum. I dont think that alot of people know the other roles I play in the scene, as most of it is done in the studio. So I am here to help and offer assistance to those that need help on the music technology department.
My main role is in the studio training up artists and bringing forward all the new talent. I feel this is the most essential and rewarding part of my job, as we need to move forward with new talent. As an older member of the scene I feel it is my responsobility to push forward new talent.
Hardcore over the years has seen may great producers move on to other genres or stop all together. I have for the last two years dedicated my work to bringing more self contained enginneers to the scene to fill the gaps left.
K-Komplex was the first person who came in full time, and is now providing the scene with great tracks , such as the new Pilgrim remix,Wanna be,Crazy Stylez Remix etc. He has also moved into trance and is producing tracks with Phil Reynolds,Spencer Freeland and Daniel Ro. He is a core artist to the collective and is testament to the ethics of our enginneers first policy.
A.M.S was the new artist in the room, and for the last twelve months has been learning hard, and building his own room. he has used his space in the room positivley and is now ready to compete with all of us. He is gonna be a good party hardcore producer, and also enjoys writing Hard trance.
Lost Souls is the new artist we are about to bring in and he will lean towards to happy end of the Hardcore Genre, as I want to bring balance and push forward new artists in genres that I dont normally get associated with, as I feel there is room for new artists in all of the Hardcore Genres. This will bring more styles and vinyl to the whole scene.
While all this is going on we have the music forum on nunrg which helps like this forum does. More like minded people trying to do the same as you guys write music tweak their studio's and help with glitches and software problems and tips etc.
It is a very open minded forum and no software or setup is deemed wrong or right. So there is help for everyone. Artists that use the site are obviously the Nuenergy Artsists, adn include Marc Smith,Robbie Long,Digital Beatz boyz,Fade,Devastate,Stormtrooper,A.C Slater,Blizzard Records and SSU
If it helps then put a post up and i am sure there will be a positive response, and someone can help.
On other things Bonkers is going well and my tracklisting has been posted. I have put in the break and added five more debuts to this compilation. I try to have as many artists as possible on my compilations and as many genres as possible. I sometimes make it hard for myself with so many styles to cover on the album lol. I feel good that two of the new artists on the album are virtual unknowns in relation to some of the other artists featured on Bonkers. Scott Majestic and the Blizzard Boyz have come through leaps and bounds in the last twelve months and their hardwork is repaid.
Looking forward to coming back to Australia it was a very succsessful tour first time round, and feel honured to be asked back so soon. I have also got some studio time with some Aussie Artists to help with production there too.
Finished Productions include. Two more Bonkers 12" with Stormtrooper,A.M.S and K-Komplex, finished,Ham n Sharkz release for Next Gen,Sharkz n Devstate release,New Marc Smith N Sharkz Bit. Hech Tech release,
in with C.L.S.M next week which i am looking forward to. I also have completed an E.P for our new Hardtrance label Synthetix and this week I am writing a Dynamix release. Something in the pipeline for stimulant too.
As you see there is a lot of different production going throught the studio. So We can help in all areas.
I will answer and help with any posts if I can, and will always listen to anyones music, and give a creative and constructive help. I can use most platforms. Build my own P.C's and network setup. use both Hardware and Software and use both Logic and cubase. Building mac's is my weak point, but I can use them and find no problems in adapting what I do to help anyone in any musical enviroment!!
Please use the Nuenergy forum it may help, and not only do you get my help you also get the help of Some of the artists above who might be able to help as well, and two minds is better than one.
In these forums a new great artist might be found. Just like K-komplex,A.M.S and Lost Souls were found. We must help and nuture those artists as they are the basic foundation of tomorrow.
I hope you all get as much enjoyment out of music production as I do in whatever style of music you create.
Peace
Jon

I find it hard to record myself on the microphone. Get fed up with hearing my own voice hehehe. It does work, but you must take your time with the hook. Or find a random one which you did not have to think about. Get more ****ed was done after it was found on a live recording at Future Dance when I was trashed. Like any tune take your time and explore with the vocals, not just on delivery and content but with post process as well. Dont use a really nice condenser microphone if you want dirty live vocals. Use a live mic, say a Shure Sm58 they rock and give a nice live sound. You can use a plug in called mic modeller to do some different things with it. Try some distortion and as with all vocals make sure they are compressed.
With delivery make sure you are not jumping about like a lunatic. Microphones show up all mistakes and strains and you must give a balanced performance trying to keep the level constant and when shouting you must move away from the microphone and treat it the same as what you would want if a singer was doing vocals on the track and make sure the delivery is proffessional(breathing,in key, balance, touch, quantize, recording level etc). Dont cup the mic with your hands as that is a bad habit alot of M.C's have when they are live it dulls the recording and like as above does not give polish on the finished product.

wicked m8, ive recorded stuff on cds and can def agree with the jumping up n down bit doesnt work at all,it completely can muffle it eg some bits are louder than others i just imagined i was mcing somewhere "got into the spirit" danced around whilst me m8 was djing whilst mcing and listened back and came to the conclusion mcing is for hypeing up a crowd and ya just cant do it when the only 2 people in the room are u and ur m8 just doesnt work
since 1999 ive been on special quest

another tip for mic recording is to use a compressor on the vocals to take out the unwanted frequencies of the waveform.
i normally set my treshold so that the loudest sections get around -6 of reduction with a 6:1 ratio and a hard knee on RMS.
doing so will keep the loud peaks under control.
Another procedure that i recommend for vocals is deessing (removing the annoying "s" sounds that occur when singing). To do so you have to cut all frequencies except for the sibilant range on your eq (and then compress).
Big up sharkey!
