they have changed and been updated sometime....
its now pay VAT on everything unless marked as a gift and you paid less then ?36 sterling
you pay custom charges on everything above ?135 sterling
it used to be pay nothing on everything under ?40 sterling

don`t know, i brought some avid bb5 with g5 blades from china 2 years ago, they cost ?40 instead of ?150 uk retail, and i had to pay not customs or VAT
you can buy them on ebay which makes life easier, and get to work in any weather

if its marked as a gift and the cost is below ?36 sterling, so you can buy blu-ray writers for your PC for ?25 and pay no tax if they marked it as a gift, when they are ?80 uk retail

Oh yeah if it's not shipped EMS then chances are you won't get charged anything. I've had plenty of shipments from Japan over ?50 and the only time I was charged import duty was when they were shipped EMS (everything else has been Airmail). Then again, I'm not sure how reliable China's postal service is so maybe it isn't a good idea to not get tracking on packages from there. :P

i buy 90% of stuff from the far east, its the only place you can buy bulk pc parts and plain baseball caps under ?25, why buy 1 when you can have 12 for a 2 week wait, 1 week now a days if its airmail
