has anyone noticed the power madness going on around here lately?
Ok some of it's got good reason to be locked but you can't keep locking topics we've seen before. For a start it isn't very welcoming to newcomers and also if u stop EVERY topic un hhc related , then it aint gonna be much fun , for newbies and usa existing users.
Just my opinion...and i know.....

While I'm not about to agree or disagree with what you're saying, can you give any specific examples of threads that were locked that you think should've been let go? It would help in understanding what it is that you think are acceptable non-HHC topics of discussion.
One point I would like to bring up is that since the new moderators were appointed, some members seem a lot more willing to declare in open forums that certain moderator actions must be taken (eg "you have to lock this thread"). You never saw this when it was just Silver and Virus, so what's changed? Is it that you see the new mods as being more "controllable", maybe, or perhaps now that it's conceivable that more new mods will be appointed you're just angling for the next spot? At any rate, it's very hard for a moderator to ignore a thread once this happens, so maybe some of what you're seeing as "power-madness" is actually coming from members, not the moderators. (On a personal note, I generally don't let this kind of thing sway my judgment, but that may just be me.)
I'll be very interested to see what people have to say about the subject.
It had to be done.

I'm gonna after be very careful because i don't want to offend you.
a: I'm certainly not "aggling" for my place as a moderator i woudln't like it and wouldn't be up to the job i admit that.
b: this may seem harsh and a bit of a back handed compliment but before you were a moderator ( yeah this is slightly persoanal ) i thoroughly enjoyed ur banter with other members and occasionally stuck my 2p's worth in. Under the 'new' set-up it appears this element of fun and banter has been removed from the boards slightly. I'm not accrediting this to u or as u rightly pointed out certain members.
|For an example that Hi topic or bonkers mutation or guess whos back etc, these topics mite be repetitive or samey or off topic slitly but that is how a forum grows and inorgarates itself with it's members if you remove this u remove the sole of a forum.
Another example:
"Please get back on topic. This topic about, "t.A.T.u" turned into a topic about porn music." Sorry Comet but it seems kinda logical to me Tatu - porn its a easy link and thats what people talking n avin a laffs about:)
I may be very wrong and like you said urself i am interested with what other people think.Neway moan over!!
Like a bolt of lightning it's so frightning..Get ur brain now we're igniting

speaking as an advanced member (and as a dude that's been here for like forever :P ) i've noticed topics are being locked at a well high rate compared to say when i first started posting here, BUT there's so many of them waffling out there now, again unlike when i first started, obviously silver doesn't want a load of crap on his webspace so i can understand the point of locking them and appointing more moderators to cope with it.
imho i think the chatroom will take out alot of this (no i'm not rushing the launch of it or anything) but until it is launched, more and more topics will spring up that need to be locked.

I have noticed the site turning into a waffle house over the last few months, nearly every topic was going off topic which pushed me to start the chat room more as I could see you guys actually were talking to each other rather than leaving messages for each other.
This is still going on, which is cool, it means the site is getting bigger and bigger, but the forums are such that, it should be a discussion and not a chat.
I don't like locking topics but I would hate the forums to turn into a waste of space.

Coming from a different direction completely, I do see your point Midway raver. Being appointed the same time as Strychnine, I also noticed the way the vibe in the forums changed there for a while, Not pointing out Strychnine as this contender. You must realise that taking on the role as a Moderator has its certain pros and cons, and I noticed this sooner then later.
I then turned back and looked at what happyhardcore.com was with Silver and Virus, Different yes but one thing came to my head.
Silver being site admin has always been who he is, Dedicated to the scene, Smart, firm, loyal to his members and sometimes even smart arsed
Virus, Moderater since nearly the opening of the site, therefor Virus being Virus aslong as anyone can remember, as a Moderator.
Now I want everyone to run through their mind the well known members on this forum, com on you know em, you know there attitude, sex and nearly almost everyones apperance. You also have your own differnt perspective on each member. For example if a certain memeber post something, you will always tend to agree/disagree with that member, regeardless if the post is relevent to what your saying.
Therefor everone had there little perspective on me, Strychnine and Toxic before we became Moderators, right?
Following this last month we bacame moderators...
Question: honestly has your perspective changed for good or worse on the 3 new Mods
Im pretty confident that 80% of the memebers here would say yes.
Why you ask, not my place to answer that, im only stating what i have seen and think we as new moderators to this forum will need a couple of months to settle in, in conclusion to this i still want the same vibe or (perspective) we always had.
Since moderating i have taken one step back and noted the changes we have made to this forum and its members, and dont put my knowledge out there when its not needed, as this may offend/piss members off.
Insted I like to sit back, join the conversation, calm down an argument and even have a Bitch about goin off topic. But there you go again thats what we are here for and again your pespective will change, either for better or worse.
Im taking everyone to have a think about this comon disscusion? hopefully its made you realise a few things? It surley has for me typing it. Has anyones perspectives changed again?
I just want to make a few things clear, we are always who we have been, regardless what our new job is. Even Locking topics will fall in this path,

Would it maybe be a an idea to start deleting some of the really old topics that were sort of waffley? Would save having to lock them when a newbie opens the thread up again, and would save space on the server.... just a thought.

I agree with locking topics, as things aree being asked over and over again (very tiring to the mind), but also posting new topics have become to a degree unbearable. I became tired and everytime I'd logged on I'd think a lot before I do, cause million topics everytime and having to look through them and having to find everytime the same topics. Till the time I didn't care to come to the site no more. I would find when I log in, about 200 or more new topics (offcourse I don't go through them all), but I would say, this is a bit too much.
See, I like the site a lot...but I have a life that is not only this site, and don't have the time to stay by everyday, now I'm trying to do my best to stay by. And don't think I have to do my best, it should be something like checking my mail everyday.

i think the topics should be closed (what a surprise coming from me haha). as most of you would have by now noticed, i have been less than welcoming to our latest newcomers to the site (yes you all know who i'm talking about). i've seen good forums go to shit, and this is one way that can start...
i do not believe you have to have the whole board lay out a red carpet for newcomers and everyone say welcome, while i think it's great this happens and i have no problem with it, the newbie (as i didn't) is not going to cry or see a shrink about it. on many forums newbies get eaten alive and then spat out and they still end up as popular respected members of the forum.
this is a question about someone turning up here and starting two separate threads (not by accident) to say "remember me?" when we've never seen that person before, and continues to have a conversation with her friends who have obviously come herefrom another site.. but why??? then that same person starts yet another thread complaining that people weren't nice enough to her, to which the board once again rolls out the red carpet (or should i say the red tissues) and apologises??? why??? do we really care that much?? i don't mean to be elitest and i'm all for waffle if it's amusing, but i don't like personal chats between friends. i think the chatroom should be good for this.
yes, you might say it's power madness, but i think this interpretation comes from the observation of people who previously were on the same level and some might say the 'class clowns' even, are now in a position of authority and have definately changed attitudes. i did notice this too, and it comes as a bit of a surprise i do admit. that being said, if you leave all these useless little threads open, we're going to be opening the board (i check it nearly every day, others check less often)and finding 100+ active posts which basically say "hi", "when does HaPpYmUnChKiNrAvEr cm online?", "funny link", "what's your favorite happy hardcore song?", "omg... i just heard shooting star on the radio", the list goes on and on and on.... i visit this forum primarily because the quality of banter is usually quite good. i'm also a member of other forums, some of which tolerate a far greater quantity of mindless bubble.
anyway i'm rambling and i've been listening to too much gabber and it's 2 in the morning on a weeknight and yeah... hope my point isn't too all-over-the-place.
drugs is not the answer... drugs? is the question... yes is the answer

im gonna have to dissagree matey on this. i always try my best to welcome and accomidate new members when they join up to the site. i like to think that these forums are more accomidating and more of a community than others like ush for example. there are so many arguments and harshness towards newbies over there for one reason - waffle.
i went onto that site the other day and 90% of the threads were nothing to do with hardcore, and if you join up and have less that 1000 posts you get slated. i dont want this site turning out like that, its friendly and always has been. thats why i post here! and for this reason i agree with the new moderators and the topic locking.
as for strych, toxic and webba turning into power hungry, im more important than you coz im a moderator blah blah blah, what a load of bs! theyare still the same people and you can still have a laugh wiv em! you dont have to be scared of them just coz they got mod status.
anyway people will probably dissagree with me on this but hey this is just my opinion!

LOCK THIS TOPIC QUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!
No seriously though...although there has been a slight increase in waffle, I feel that there's always been a degree of waffle on the boards.
General Waffling can encourage newbie members to post
Also though Specefic waffling between say just 2 or 3 people will easily ruin a topic and no-one else can get a word in.
I can't stand waffling myself, but closing topics when they die is fine....it's just sometimes lately I have thought some topics have been closed when sometimes, some posters can add some more quality to the topic.
Anyway, I've no more to say.

Gee...........a serious and interesting thread.
In concern to the new Mod's I think all have been total successes. I respect them and feel like I know them. Given some of the idiots I have seen lately I am not surprised that in some cases a mod's almost instant reaction is to move or lock a topic. I am talking about Kolerl2 bad boy and the like. However I agree with you fazza mate, making new ppl feel at home is important. You all did do this for me, and although I have deserved a couple of slaps on the way, still think this is a tôp site with top ppl on it. I thought ok lets try Ush, about 5 seconds later, I came screaming back here!! Oh my God NO!! A site poorly designed, full of crap and as said above, Threads 1000s of threads completely unrelated to hardcore
Silver I take notice, You have a serious point. I will listen a bit more in future.
Now I waffle (I know I do) but a little doesn't hurt, I try not to spam because
I think that show's dis-respect to the site bosses. Without a little waffle, I would not have meet a hardcore raver from brussels nor got to like so many ppl on the board. The trick I believe is knowing when to stop. When ppl don't then the Mods have been excellent at putting things back on track. I don't like private tellings off, I feel obligated to answer back, some times when it is not needed but that's me. Locking my topic or a quick public slap on the wrist works better for me.
Finally I am 28, and that does in some ways make a difference but working in theatre I have learn't to treat all ppl as adults little or big, it is much more rewarding than saying 'oh f*ck off ,your 16!! what do you know' some ppl are more mature than others but as long as they are keen, they deserve a bit of
Working at and patience (sorry if that is spelt wrong but there you go)
In some ways I am to old and in others I just want to be a big kid forever, either way, even with the chat room, I hope not all waffle will disappear from the forums.
I think a friendly hello to new comers can only be a good thing but red carpets?
No, if the talk the talk they deserve recognision if they talk crap, then they should be told so, Of all the ppl on this thread that is what I would do........
......even if I am scared of you all!!
Please remeber there is a big difference between say XTC Bitch and Lady envi to Klorel2 and Bad boy. The first two need a bit of calming down and encouragement, the last two need their heads flushed in a toilet..preferably one just used

You know, that's one Moderator Option that I'd really like to have: "Flush User's Head Down Toilet". Others would be "Give User Atomic Wedgie" and "Wack User Upside The Head".
Back on-topic, I'm sure no-one's disputing the "easy" locks that we have to do every now and then (eg mp3-requests, junk posts, "I shagged ya mums"-style posts etc) but then there are the not-so-clear-cut ones where people have gone off-topic and begin to enjoy a bit of banter. I personally have no problem with this (hell, it's why I don't really mind having to read every post), but when the fun is getting in the way of the informative aspects of the discussion then obviously we need to do something about it.
It had to be done.

Yeah and I wonder which member would be recieving most of these options off you.
*nervously looks around room*
But Like Strychnine said, sometimes topics have to be locked....when they get too long and it's all turned into waffle.
