The song's not bad, and the drop isn't terrible, but to be honest I'd probably just edit out the drop if I was going to play this out.

For those that do like the drop - which is absolutely fine, obviously - the reason I personally don't enjoy it is: for me, the drop in a Hardcore track is the point at which you go absolutely nuts on the dancefloor. The climax of that section of the track, and a huge release of positive energy.
The drop in this track has no momentum and no energy. And it has a "dirty" vibe to it.

At least it's not one of those drops which is basically the intro with the occasional "psshhhh" sound chucked in. Whilst it could have been better, it could easily have been a whole lot worse.

The thing is it's supposed to be the top tier of the scene so to casual listeners, this is what they will think the scene is all about and that's dreadful. I got a butt load of music this year and not a scrap of it was from futureworld etc and it's been a great year. You just have to ignore the crap at the top.

I love it when you talk about climaxes, huge releases of positive energy and dirty vibes :-D
Seriously though, I never thought this track would cause so much debate. For me it's the kind of track that hardcore has been lacking in over the last few years. Absolutely banging!

definitely see what you mean, although i think this theme of minimalistic drops can be explained by the proverb "less is more", which i dont actually agree with, but it applies. when you have many things playing at once, you will give each one a bit of attention. i think that having drops this reduced in complexity gives the main lead more emphasis. in this song, the saw synths are practically the only thing occupying the mid range of the frequency spectrum, which gives it more highlight due to the fact that there is nothing else playing besides the kick and bass. it is like if you had a blue canvas and painted a small sized dot with red in the middle. sure, it is a small dot, but red is blues complement/"opposite" colour, and therefore it pops out to the eye. in the song, its a contrast between silence and a really aggressive synth stab. plus, you have the element of surprise/edgyness for the fact that you made something basic right after a huge breakdown, when everyone was expecting something really big and euphoric. in fact, this very song has very euphoric synths on the breakdown, and a very aggressive mood during the chorus. again, contrast. but in this case, its contrast between themes, giving more emphasis to the whole drop :)

Honestly questioning myself if some people even heard the second part of the drop @ 1:30 or stopped before it because they assumed it'll stay minimal.

Probably not, but does it really matter? Dougal, gammer and darren styles follow a very similar formula throughout their tracks. So it's obvious that those 20 seconds of that drop will not be the only 20 seconds that will appear in the whole track. It will be featured again at least one more time.

lol. I can't deny that I knew that sentence would create a lot of sexual energy.

Totally understand where you're coming from mate, and get the technical explanation behind it. In practice, though, my brain just doesn't like it for some reason. :-( 15 years or so of listening to massive drops has lead my brain to expect it all the time!
Anyways, it's only a minority of tunes and it really doesn't bother me. Especially if other people are enjoying it.
I'll be really interested to see what the music is like, generally, at HTID In The Sun this year. It will be my first "big" rave in a long time. I only ever go to smaller events where there's rarely more than one set of modern, mainstream stuff.

I don't think that is the worst minimal drop by a long shot. There are far, far worse out there. See Darren Styles remix of We Killed The Rave.
At least the bass in this one is meaty and has a bit of presence. It's like DS's Lights & Thunder remix which is quality because the bassline on the drop is so chunky.
This one isn't as good as that though.
Like Jay said earlier, this track has more potential than it delivers.

Yeah, that's not dreadful and basically works.
A bit like the first drop in this (Dave Curtis - Serenade): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2OYqbcAC48 That said, I may just tolerate that drop because the overall track is so strong. Could be tricking myself. Dunno.

Sounds a bit like Zedd's Remix of Alive.
