wow. i FINALLY was able to order the latest bit of new tracks out and I must say... i LOVE the direction all of these tracks are taking.
What can I say... Jimmy J, Cru-L-T, Robbie Long, Coyote, DNA, etc.. all these new tracks.. they kick major ass. I've spun them for some friend's and they all say to me in astonishment "wow, they aren't really THAT happy anymore!" I think what they really meant was it wasn't cheese.
If you ask me, 2001 is going to be a very defining moment for hardcore, and its going to just clear a nice smooth path for 2002. I've lost count of how many labels are coming up soon, most by the end of summer. A lot of them all over the states too..
One gripe : I don't like the new raverbaby stuff. Way too basic for me... and the vocals on Come Together just dont sound right. But thats just IMHO!
cheers!

My 2 cents:
I really like the artists Jimmy J, Cru-L-T, Robbie Long, Coyote, DNA...
I think happy hardcore has been given a face lift, I have a lot of contacts from over the globe and they all say the same thing:
UK: parties are coming back
Australia: 10,000 - 15,000 party's sold out
Canada: The popular Happy2BHardcore CD series.
Japan: the extreamly popular Speed Mania CD's (2 miliion sold).
US: Like sunrize said, many new labels coming out and more party people.
it's all good

woops.... messed that one up... hmm wonder why it didnt post my message. well, here's what i MEANT to say :
didn't know that hardcore was so big over in australia!
i'd say a lot of the new tracks seem to have a 95-97 style just more refined and harder. (well, of course they do when ya got remixes of crowd control, etc.)
oh, and one more gripe i have.... why in the world does the new brisk & devestate sound SPANISH??!?!
cheers!

sunrize: yeah I asked him that the other day, but I compaired it to a "scott brown" sound... he said that it was not intentional...
happy_smilez: yeah they are okay, sometimes the mixes are real short so they can pack more tracks onto a CD, you can only get em' in Japan I believe, unless you special import em'

I think the most promising newz about hardcore in the UK is the amount of new events coming up. Future Dance is just over a year old and has an awesome reputation and wicked parties.

Hardcore is only really big in sydney australia but is not refined as it is in uk or america. Its only rarely that it isn't the same old shit from elstak and co that is played, aside from gabber if that counts.
I agree, hardcore is getting a big time lease of new life. The attitude in the production side of things is much more tuned to the audience than in the lapse period from 1997 - 1999.
Personally im finding i can mix up more variety now, old into new and forget about style fascism.
Heres My playlist
1. Pulp Shock - Far Away (Dj sim hardcore mix) (1996 - mokum)
<Dandy, one of the best all time hhc tracks>
2. Fade - Believe in me (2001 Blatant)
<I have to restrain myself so i dont play this several times a day!>
3. George Vagas - Hyperdome (1995 Shock)
<Oldskooly Dutch hardcore with happy edge>
4. Edit V - Burning love sensation (1995 impact) <House Bootleg with scorching piano and martin luthor king samples
"Let us rise up tonight!"
5. 3 Steps Ahead - Drop it (1996 Id&T)
<Classic, Happy gabber crossover>
"Its absolutely ****in great!"
THey all work together which is less than i can say for 1997-1999. I think more happy hard djs should be branching out into dutch stuff, scott browney stuff and just generally more than that characteristic 'post rave/jungle split sound'

Heist: I agree in part but I found that Australian DJ's don't like to play vocal tunes, esp. ones with girl's singing (unless really hard). The only DJ that used to play it was Daydream. When I came to play in Australia and I played on CPX radio I played basically the same stuff as on the radio on this station and I still get email about it saying they were great tunes and they wanted to hear more. I think more DJ's in Australia should play this style, glad to see your not afraid too.
