This is a public service announcement...

I've been packing up the studio this week as me and the Mrs are looking for a new house. Having finally managed to get the tiles off the wall it has made such a mess! Now trying to sand the glue/left over tile off the wall but it is not an easy task. Going through sandpaper like mad and it takes an absolute age. Also got loads of missing bits of plaster to fill before repainting. As well as all this the bass traps I had above the window seem to have harboured some damp/mould.

Thinking back it was a pretty stupid thing to do but seems pretty common practice so thought I'd post about my troubles to hopefully warn people away from it. Next time it's going on a board and I'm screwing the boards to the wall.

I've heard that a few times before.

Sounds like a load of agro man! Good luck with the new house. Looking to stay in the same area?

No, he's moving to Leeds so he has no excuse not to come to Stomp!

anything that needs to be stuck to the wall will always damage it in the end.

It's not good, loads of the stuff. Thankfully it isn't that deep and can be sanded off but could have got lots worse a few years down the line I guess.

Will be staying local yeah. I'm only a 7 min drive from work and the mrs is about 4 mins atm so want to keep that similar. Probably wont even move out of the village we're in as we love it here. Fast access to London/Oxford/High Wycombe/Aylesbury but living in a nice rural village with the Chiltern Hills on the doorstep.

Indeed. Wasn't expecting it to be quite this bad though.

squares of mine fall off on occasion which has given me the change to check for the mould thing; everything seems fine - and the fact that the pieces sometimes fall off gives me confidence I shouldn't have too many issues when we move hehe.
I didn't use glue though, just used a square of industrial double sided tape in each corner - tested and it doesn't leave too much of a mark on these walls when you get it off!

might come down to what type of walls you have too though as to what works best!

Sounds like a better method. None of mine fell off over the 5 years I was there so they where held pretty damn tight.

Yeah I guess type of wall plays a part. Mine are just plastered, wooden stud walls like you get in most new builds these days. The mould was only under the bass traps above the window. Windows being condensation traps in the winter it isn't terribly surprising I guess.

Mate, that sounds unbelievable. That sounds like somewhere I'd like to live. I'm too close to London where I am. I want to be more rural.

I put mine up with the intention of taking them down at any moment as I'm expecting to move soon! This family has outgrown this house lol

Should move down to Chinnor then. ;) Be more than welcome here and it isn't far from North London. We might even be pursuing the idea of having a lodger lol.

Yeah its lovely mate. Here's the new development (could only find a tiny pic):

used to be a cement works but it was abandoned for years and finally got knocked down. They filmed some bits from a Bond movie there and a series called In Deep. :P

& the rest of the village:

Getting near to a small town now really TBH but doesnt feel that way.

I wasn't intending to move at the time but things always move faster than you think aye haha. Just having the Mrs move in and getting a dog means we need more room. Looking for a 3 bed with a separate garage I can convert into a studio.

Our sound proofing did the same, the wall is a mess.

Ahh mate, looks absolutely ideal. Gorgeous place.

I will get there one day. Or an environment similar. Spent about 15 summers of my child hood in Cornwall - would love to move there as well. At the moment though, my life is still completely dictated by my social life and friends - and whilst that's still going strong, I'm not willing to give it up! I love all my mates so much, that I'm gonna stick around here until everyone gradually marries, moves off etc. That's when I can start thinking about project "Get A Dog And Chill Out In The Countryside".

Nightmare isn't it! Have you just removed it or where you moving or something? I'm guessing the best thing to do is just get some big ass sheets of cheap wood, glue the tiles to those and then screw them to the wall. That way they can just be unscrewed and moved whenever.

Ah yeah Cornwall is great too. I also spent loads of summers down there with the family haha. At the Headland Hotel on top of Fistral Beach.

Up by the New Forest would be great too, could see us living there at some point in our lives if we're still in the UK.

I guess we're lucky really as most of our friends are local to Chinnor having lived here all our lives! Both our families too. Guess you could say it's a bit lame not wanting to venture out of where you grew up but if it's so nice why bother! I can definitely see your point, would hate to move away from everyone I know while we're all still living it large. :P

Ahh Fistral Beach, powerful. I spent all of mine in Perranporth. Gorgeous little place. Beach was phenomenal. I've got fond memories of being down there in October half-term as a 17 year old. Wet, windy, cold. Just me and my labrador walking for hours up and down the beach. Ahh I miss that SO fcuking much. Miss the dog badly! Died in 2009 when I was in Paris on a dirty weekend with a Welsh girl. Fcuking DISTRAUGHT to have not been there. Quite possibly the biggest regret in my life to date, not being with her when she died. Kills me to this day.

And yeah man, you should definitely not feel you have to move away from where you grew up just for the sake of it. Where you live looks incredible!

Ah that looks lovely man, never been there myself. I think we ventured out to Truro one time to go quad racing but never anywhere else lol. Struggle to remember what we spent all our time doing tbh, playing on the beach I guess.

Sad times with the dog man, sorry to hear that. I had moved out shortly before our families black lab died that we had since I was 7 and I was devastated. Never easy losing a dog. Me and the Mrs have a golden lab now though and she is fighting the good war on slippers - https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=285416148253672&set=vb.100003558687107&type=2&theater :D

It is man. :) Can't imagine calling anywhere else home right now.

I'd noticed you'd gone one! She looks gorgeous!

Ahh man, watching that - the mannerisms of labs! Ahh you forget their facial expressions and stuff. Fudge me, got to get another one. Amazing dogs.

Dunno if facebook URLs work, but here she is, the adorable little pup!
