Really weird as I was talking in work yesterday, how George Lucas had refused to do 7, 8 and 9, well he has now sold out to Disney and number 7 is coming in 2015, anyone care like me?

In case anyone is wondering, Doc is talking about this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-20146942

quote:
BBC:
Disney is buying Lucasfilm, the company behind the Star Wars films, from its chairman and founder George Lucas for $4.05bn (2.5bn).

Mr Lucas said: "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of film-makers."

In a statement announcing the purchase, Disney said it planned to release a new Star Wars film, episode seven, in 2015.

That will be followed by episodes eight and nine and then one new movie every two or three years, the company said.

I am indifferent about it. Lucas has basically become super rich and doesn't really have to do anything else but 'help' with the new movies.

They'll probably be shit, especially considering how many Disney has said they're going to be pumping out. A new trilogy and new movies every two to three years afterwards? They basically came out and said "we're going to be milking this shit as long as we can".

I think they'll do a great job on 7-9. Marvel fans were really worried when Disney took over Marvel Studios, and so far they've done an incredible job. Especially with the Avengers movie.

After episode 9, it's a tossup really. I don't follow much on star wars other than the movies, so I don't really know what else they can make movies about.

The thing with Marvel is that it looks like all they're doing is funding projects, rather than micromanaging them.

As for Star Wars, I kind of don't care. I wonder if they'll follow the books though.

I would have love a The Force Unleashed movie.

No, they wont as the books are all written within a specific period after rotj, up to 40 years later and beyond that is where vii would take place, meaning that any of the books will have taken place before the new movie, all the writers had agreements with Lucas not to write specific timelines

the cant really do that as its not cannon and wouldn't fit, its also like the clone wars Kids show, its "kind of" cannon but not so much that they can make a movie, but they did and it was shit. and besides making a Movie>A Game>a Movie.

"Disney/Someone" has already decided that the new movie trilogy will be the sequel trilogy, so vii-ix taking place after the original 70s trilogy

You say that like the last two sets didn't do the same thing, 77-80-83, 99-02-05, as for it being shit cuz of Disney who is to say since nothing is even known about anything really only speculations. When is something considered "milked"? i don't know, but i for one would not mind someone else taking control of star wars and seeing where they take it, can only go up from i-iii and considering the fact that its pretty much a clean slate "lore" wise could go anywhere.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_sequel_trilogy kinda of gives you an idea of when it will happen, not about what

I expect disney will also release the original "unadulterated" versions of the original 3 starwars movies too now that Lucas isn't around to stop it happening
disney will want to milk it for all its worth and thats one they they know the fans are after

personally as i'm not a fan I couldn't really care less..but thats my two cents

disney did fine with the avengers, that movie was great fun - i don't see why they'd do a bad job with a new star wars

To be honest, Pirates of the Caribbean had far more about it than any of the last three Star Wars films.

apart from the 4th one! the only good thing about that film was that they got rid of Keira Skeletor Knightley

Lucas isn't going anywhere from the movies, he is still being the creative director of the movies. Lucas is just one filthy rich mother ****er, and he's flaunting it now.

No, as far as I know, he's going to be offered the position as creative consultant, which means he will not be writing nor directing. :)

The Force Unleashed and the Clone Wars (the most recent one) cartoon series are canon.

starkiller kills vader in one ending and there some mistakes with the 3d clone wars, only the one directed by Genndy Tartakovsky is cannon, and doesnt fit with the new 3d one timeline wise as the already know about grievous in the 3d one yet the GT one takes place from II up to the start of III, leaving no room for his padawan to even exist

I like the new 3d series, but no way in hell is it cannon, at least allot of characters and C-development,

tl;dr clone wars http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_Clone_Wars_(2003_TV_series) is canon and doesnt leave room for the new one to even make sense

Episode I, II and III have bigger mistakes tbh, since they included R2 and C3PO who clearly have no knowledge of anything in The New Hope. They felt shoehorned into the story.
