anybody here use it or know if it's safe/dangerous because recently my mate has been downloading movies and pornos using that the only reasoni found that out was because videos started appearing in the my documents folder instead of the downloads folder i use tixati for all my downloads and since a few days ago my desktop can no longer connect to the internet...i've tried troubleshooting it and it says the diagnostics system is inactive also a few days before i got a window pop up on my browser tellingme that there was a trojan horse or something onmy computer and it wanted me to download windows defender but i already have that so that kinda raised alarm bells because mcafee never found any viruses after i done a full scan anyone able to help
oh and before i forget last night my laptop suddenly went into system restore mode completley out of the blue to a restore point i created back in november can i put that back to how it was last night or not
i hate technology

Many P2P (peer-to-peer) client software can be used by hackers to hack into PCs of other users. And some of them were made for purpose of installing you a potentially dangerous malware.
Some download utilities slowly download and install viruses on your PC. 1 Click Downloader your brother got is probably a safe software, but there's also a malware called 1 Click Downloader.
Some video files were made to hack into your computer via specific video players.
Some video files say you should download a special codec from a special website to watch them. Make sure your brother didn't fall for that because that codec is a malware.
If you already have Windows Defender, that alert is a scam. It will download a fake antivirus saying you have 500 spyware which will never leave you alone unless you purchase "full version" of that antivirus.

That's your first mistake, McAfee sucks huge monkey balls. Download Avast! Free and use the boot time scan. It will scan all your local disks (all your hard drives) before Windows can start up. Since the virus lives within the Windows environment scanning before Windows can start means it doesn't have time to activate to block any scans.

No, restore points are not reversible.

I prefer removing malware manually lol. Antivirus software aren't always to be trusted because viruses change to better versions which antiviruses don't recognize as malicious.

i'm gonna ask my uncle to have a look at it he's amazing at this sort o stuff
the only thing thats really pissing me off is the fact that in the space of 5 minuites my desktop was perfect i was on facebook i finished what i had to do shut the computer down then i turned it on because i wanted to find a cheap tv for when i'm in bed chillin ever since then it's not telling me i have a connection and when i create a new connection to the network it will not connect
my guess is i've got what i paid for it only cost 399 (Still a lot of money but cheap for a pc) and it's an acer and i've had nothing but problems when i've bought an acer i can't help but wonder if i had a better computer would this have happened

The manufacturer or the hardware is not the problem in this case. I have a $299 netbook that runs perfectly fine. You should be more careful with what may be malware. Often download programs that clam to "speed up downloads" infect your computer.

I offer anti-virus software because do you really want to tell him to go remove it by himself? I've had bad experiences with that, up to and including people trying to remove their System32 because some douche on a forum said too. The only time I would offer that to a customer is through remote desktop, but my work doesn't let me do that anyway.

It's not your computer. The reason you got a virus was through some various way of allowing it to download on your computer. Don't click on any ads, don't click on any popups, don't click on any link of people you don't know and don't trust. If you think your buddy just found this link from some random clicking through ads, don't ****ing click it.
The best way to avoid virus' is to be wary of EVERY link, and have a good active anti-virus program. Anti-virus programs that aren't McAfee or Trend Micro are getting better and better with their active scanners. That is why I like Avast so much because it does and will stop viruses from downloading.
Your hardware has absolutely nothing to do with it, as you're still using the exact same operating system and the exact same browser you would use on any computer. It's user error.

this sounds a lot like the same virus/malware or whatever it is that I have on a desktop I don't use anymore. It wouldn't let me connect to the internet, but it also prevented me from going to my control panel and manually deleting programs, and I think it wouldn't even let me use my McAfee. And yes McAfee is shit I have Kasperby and it works great haven't had any problems like what I had on my desktop.
Luckily my computer wasn't a total loss and I managed to safely move my files off of my desktop through my external harddrives. I would've gone f**king mad too if all those files were lost because a lot of them were purchased music.

That's why, it's all about what you click. Use Avast with the boot scanner, it's a safe haven.

I like playing around. Once I tried to get myself a virus. I tried with ads, ads on porn sites, downloading fake cracks... 0% success. I even clicked on an ad tht offers a software which makes half-naked and naked ladies dance on your screen while u can use ur computer anyway u want. And it was REAL. But only half-naked ladies were for free.
Ads are there to earn money on you. You see a good product advertised, you click it, check out information and u buy it. Even if it says "Congratulations, you won...", that doesn't mean it will get u a virus if u click it. It will simply ask you for your credit card details in order to steal from you. Your system and browser themselves have good prevention methods anyway.
Best way to protect from a virus is actually trying to get a virus. Other than that, computer knowledge, English language and a good antivirus in case your knowledge fails you. It happens.
