Anyone played these games? I know the latest Civ is a bit old now and RoN is ancient but this doesn't really bother me! Both series passed me by when I was a kid and I want to check them out but which first!? I'm very familiar with RTS games but have barely dipped my toe into Turn-based strategy.

I've only played Civilization V. It was very addictive, played it ~30 hours per week for the first weeks. After played it through twice, i kinda had seen it all and stopped playing. Id definitely recommend it.

Cheers guys, it's 1 vote for each then. :P haha. I'll get both eventually but want to avoid playing 2 games at once. Any more votes?
Triq - Have you played the first RoN? Legends looked great but doesn't seem to have scored as high in reviews.

Only played Civ V like Whispering. Is pretty fun, but like he said after awhile you see everything but you can change everything.

No story campaign, theres loads of historic figures to choose from in the beginning with whom you play with. Each have few individual bonuses. So whatever the style you wanna play (win through diplomacy, science, culture or domination), should match the person. In-game strategy is what brings the life to the game, theres endless strategic paths to choose from. Though in my experience, conquering is the easiest way. The AI on diplomatic relations was a bit schizophrenic, you could go years showering an ally with gifts and what not and in blink of an eye it turns against you with no apparent reason. This is why domination is the easy way, you can just conquer all their cities in retaliation. Which is quite satisfying.

Thought that was the case. I do like a good campaign but it doesn't put me off too much... I sunk months upon months into skirmish battles in Age Of Empires and the likes. Quite interested to see how I like playing a proper turn based game really. Any idea what that fantasy turn based game was actually? I remember playing a demo years back and quite enjoyed it.
Ahhh I'm torn. Tempting to order both but then I wont give either proper attention probably. Especially as I'm still on Skyrim and have Persona 4 lined up to play.

I've recently started Civ V. No longer my type of game but, objectively, it is amazing. People say its better than VI. Try a demo =)

Guess I could try a demo of them! I've not played a demo on a PC for years lol. I remember the days of getting PC Gamer and spending days playing through all the demos on the disks. :P I think I actually played the demo of Age of Empires for about 2 months when I waas waiting for Christmas to get the full game haha.
