I really could do with some advise about befefits ect. If anyone knows much it would really be appreciated.

Right here we go, just a quick background story so you know where im at. I had a fall out with my father so im currently living with my mum, which i have been for about half a year. She wants me out basically cos i need to sort my shit out, ive been on jobseekers for the past year and a half.

I have found a room in redditch, looked around and im happy with it, and he'll ring me back tomorrow to let me know if its mine or not. Its 90 a week with rent without bills, which im still not sure exactly what they will come to yet.

Now this is where im screwed, I went to redditch council to get the forms i need and the woman told me that i can claim a maximum of 63.23 a week. But i dont know how this is so when there's people whos rent is more and they still get it, and they are in the same situation.

Now is it really the maximum or is that just like an average, or just a standard responce they have to give? Im really stumped as to what to do, As I've never really rented my own place and haven't got a clue what I'm doing really. Has anyone had any experience with the council and housing benefit?

Sorry about the bucketload of text by the way although i did make sure it was grammatically correct ;)

Yes that's the maximum, unless you add disabilities on top or find a top bird that'll let you have kids with her so you can child benefits aswell...

To sum up that really long answer... I'd say get a job. ;)

There are other benefits to look into, your friends may be entitled to housing benefit and thatts what helping them keep afloat:

try going through this, it will let you know what you are entitled to get:

(fill it in as if you are in your new place at 90 a week)

Yeh that probably right. How old are you? you get more when you reach 25 and you also get more if you have kids, there are probably some other benfits aswel though or you could to get a flat from the council, this takes time though. I know someone who was in a similar situation and is now living in a hostel and its really not that bad its more like a flat that you dont have to pay for so you could allways look into that whilst you get something sorted. If you need more help contact the citizens advice bereau

Yeah I do agree, even a part time job would cover you for that rent mate. Other than that if you could produce a baby like most teens now you get your own house, free rent... free money... and the people who work hard pay for this lol no wonder the uk is so ****ed up. Best advise get a job it's not hard be persistent don't give up till you've got one.

having kids is a completely retarded way to deal with the situation.
you might get a small amount of money extra - but that will never cover the costs of actually HAVING kids, I've got two, it baffles me how anybody could actually "live" or "survive" happily on benefits. can't be a good existance.

Agreed mate. That was me taking the piss out of the uk regime. I've always had a wage since I left school and i'm 26 now so not doing bad. I don't know how people could live off benefits. I've always had money to spend though so I can't put myself in that position.

ive been looking for work but no luck, probably due to me not having any formal qualifications or stuff, but yea ive been to the council and theyve put me on the list. and been to hostels to apply for them, just a case of waiting.

the place was taken by the viewer before me so thats not an issue anymore, i feel like a tool for putting my situation on here, just at the time i was ready to jump in front of a bus. so it was more just a case of i just didnt know what to do anymore lol so i just needed someone to talk to.

these things just take time i guess, sorry people!

The council should have a list of landlords with properties that rents are near or equal to the Local Housing Allowance rates.

The shared room rate is now extended to single under 35s (some exemptions apply).
