Alright chaps. Need some technical advice, if you wouldn't mind. It's obviously not a production question, but didn't really see a better forum for the topic? Move it if you want to Mods :-)
So. Just as an experiment (I still love my CDJs), I wanted to have a play around using Virtual DJ and my DJM-400. I had moderate success, and I'd like to know if what I'm doing/wanting to do is actually possible with what I've got - or if I need to invest in a few bits to make it all work properly.
So what I've done so far was to follow what a number of YouTube videos suggest doing. That is, once in the Config screen in Virtual DJ, set the Outputs to External Mixer, set the Sound Card to Mono Separated and selected from the drop down list my USB Audio Interface.
Then, I connect the USB Audio Interface to my laptop. I then use a 1/8 jack to RCA cable, putting the jack into the headphone port, and one RCA into input/line-in 1 on my mixer, and the other into input/line-in 2. The theory being that each half of that single RCA cable is channeling a deck each from Virtual DJ.
So, I turn everything on and get a tune playing. The sound quality is quite poor, and the tunes are only playing out of one speaker each. Channel one only plays out of my left speaker, and channel two only plays out of my right speaker.
What am I doing wrong? I don't even know what I'm really meant to be doing. Can it be done properly?
Any help would be massively appreciated. Cheese :-)

Buy a cheap USB sound card and have two stereo cables instead of 2 mono's.
Think you can get an ok sounding one for about 20. Will do for home use etc.

I had the PC Soundcard going to the Amp (LIVE) and used this USB one for the headphones (Monitors) Worked good for parties etc.

I used the maya44, 4 in 4 out red & white. It worked without changing any1 settings in VDJ. bt It was only the mixer that worked tho the track selecting, beat matching etc was vdj. Im not sure if thats what u mean?? I was tryin to get my cdjs fully working while only selectin what track to play through vdj. I downloaded a a timecode cd and it still wouldn't work. I was actually on it earlier and clicked by accident SCRATCH at the 3 options about the master volume control, and the mixer changes to a wave form styles bit with A and B timecode on/off. I'm not sure if that'll work, I dunno if anythin ive sed is any use to u but thought it share it anyway

Thank you lads. Between you I think you've got me sorted. Pretty sure I know what I have to do now.
Rather fcuking irritatingly though, I broke my mixer today. Screwing.

Why were you screwing your DJ equipment? Not enough ladies for you?

Next time you load VDJ up listen very carefully... you might hear a little evil laugh coming from your computer.
