They're only 'legal' because they're being used for a purpose other than they're intended for.
Still potentially dangerous, so quite right that they should get looked into.

I don't think they should be banned. People should be able to make their own choice as with all drugs. However, the people selling them should definately try to make it very clear that just because it is not illegal, does not mean that it's in any way safe. This is the problem; people who otherwise wouldn't touch any illegal stuff think that because shops are selling this stuff legally that it's safe. In reality it's just so new that it hasn't been banned yet and is either as bad or worse than illegal stuff, worse still the negative effects of these research chemicals are usually very little known.

Prohibition is retarded. Legalize all, tax the shit out of them, and then use the tax revenue and money saved on policing to deal with whatever fall out there is, which would likely be minimal anyway.

hate to throw petrol on the fire but David Cameron was in the last commitee into legalising drugs before the conservatives were in govenment, where David (according to branson) supported him in his cause, of course, its different now they are in power as to actually stand up in support of issues like this still freaks much of the public..and church -.- out. they seem to think the world will end if everything is legalised - which of course it won't.
If anyone's been watching the home affairs select committee's latest inqury where they called richard branson and he spoke very well on the part of "legalise everything" cause. Keith Vaz himself has said that Cameron (before he came to power) has aknowledged that the war on drugs has failed, which is why our government have set up this select committee.

The tricky part is, supporters of branson in the current (or any) government and the cause still have to get these things voted through - and when there is mixed feelings on both sides of the house (just like in the country as a whole) getting that done is tricky..then there is the house of lords, where no doubt the old fogies will refuse to let anything through (the lords involved with the church will go nuts, as will ex-health ministers)..
then all the unions and medical boards in the NHS who hate change will start rallying and it'll all kick off.
Hense why branson has been calling on cameron to "be brave"
legal highs are different to controlled drugs, because they arent controlled, thats why under current law such a harsh method is used when the most tenuious link is found.
hilariously, many of the sites i've been looking at have completely misquoted the daily mail of all things! (firstly reading it, and then misquoting it! blahdy hell!)
with regards to the plea of all those celebs who have signed a petition and sent it to the gov:
"Mary Brett, a trustee of charity Cannabis Skunk Sense said: This is naive in the extreme." they've just read the headline on the DM and assumed it was daivd cameron who said that, it wasn't.
but this is a good example of the first of many people who will kick off if they try to change leg. :/
As someone who considers themselves conservative I get annoyed when govenment tell me what I can and can't do with my body, even if I don't take drugs I hope they are able to change it eventually and fully support branson.

The committee's previous inquiry in 2002, when David Cameron was on the committee, said drug use was a "passing phase" for many young people which "rarely results in any long-term harm".
The cross-party group dismissed legalisation and decriminalisation but urged ministers to lobby for the loosening of international treaties which prohibit such radical steps.
Speaking more than 10 years ago, Mr Cameron added that the UK's drugs policy had "been failing for decades" and he hoped the report would "encourage fresh thinking and a new approach".
Addressing the MPs, Sir Richard said: "David Cameron wasn't prime minister [then] and now he has become prime minister, and we hope that we can give him the information to make him brave in changing drugs policy for society as a whole."

Of course it has failed, there is no war to begin with other than the one the government created. You can't dictate what people can and can't put in their body. That's just stupid.

Taking intoxicating substances is as old as mankind. All those upholder of moral standards are probably the same ones who go on vacation to visit native tribes in Africa, Asia or South America and enjoy taking part at their celebrating or spiritual ceremonies, which mostly contain the usage of intoxicants.
I mean I havn't barely touched any illegal drugs so far and I don't really feel any impulse to do so, but I don't mind if someone else uses them.
