honestly i prefer the hardcore scene as a small tight knit community unknown to mainstream masses.

not to get into a skrillex debate, I still don't understand peoples obsession with hating skrillex - he makes the music, surely that should be enough to satisfy people! lol
fair enough if you don't like the music itself, but he still produces all his songs, and he isn't pulling some sort of Rankin or Cammy..this is "artists" of the year, not DJ.
impressed that MTV USA ran an article on dance music though! thanks to dubstep making it "ok" to listen to dance music i guess things over there are starting to change?

It really puzzles me too tbh. :P I've only heard a couple of bits but they sounded OK to me. Certainly not the best Dubstep I've heard but I can see why he has mainstream success.

Not surprised that Skrillex won. My issue with Skrillex winning isn't so much that it's Skrillex it's the fact it's such bad dubstep. Buildup -> drop -> noises ....and now? When do we get the song? I just never understand what I'm meant to be enjoying. "Ah mate I loved the bit where it went WHREEEKRSHHHVVVDDDBLUBLUBLUB" ???

Absolutely, but I think from a musical standpoint it's nothing particularly impressive. I didn't expect anything worthwhile from MTV anyway but it's a shame people choose to celebrate this music as art and not the far more creative and impressive things seen this year. It's not a personal beef against him. It could be him, it could be anyone of his skill level.
