For all of us gamers here, this is our equivalent to the Grammys, Oscars, and Emmys. It's almost over, and though I didn't get to catch all of it. It seems like it was a good show in some parts and so-so in others.
If anyone else watched, post your thoughts if you want!

I watched it all. Some of the "sketches" were really embarrassing - like the Fruity Ninja and cupcake contest - as if this was aimed at little kids... Doesn't really prove to "outsiders" that the video game industry isn't full of immature and stupid little kids, and can and should be taken seriously...
I really loved seeing Miyamoto there, and to hear him speak English! Hideo Kojima was there too, attempting to speak English but that was a bit of a fail, haha, should probably be clips up for that part. On that note, Metal Gear Rising looks ridiculously lame - why does it even wear the name "Metal Gear"? I guess to sell. Same that happened with Resident Evil when RE4 was released and all games that followed.
Sadly not too excited for Alan Wake's American Nightmare - I loved, loved Alan Wake but this one hasn't convinced me yet but hey, it's only the first trailer! Things can change!

I gotta agree with that part. The MGR trailer was a huge let down :(

I don't even consider Rising a Metal Gear - no snake, no metal gear.
plus this game has been handed off to another company to finish so it's really not a labor of Kojima's love.
didn't get to see any of it since I'm working and forgot to dvr it, doh! was curious as to what tony hawk's rezerection was.

That's why it is Metal Gear Rising, not Metal Gear Solid, not even just Metal Gear. I'm all for Hideo branching out and fleshing out stories of other characters in the series. But, the game itself, especially from the new trailer, is such a let down. While I have such high hopes for the story ONLY because it is Hideo's development studio behind the reigns. But, this is also the thing, Hideo was not actually working on the game during it's construction phases. This is because he was working on Peace Walker (which is awesome on the PS3 with the HD collection, btw). But he's been working on since 2010, and it's not looking any better.
What disturbs me the most about this series (they plan on making two) is:
quote: Hideo Kojima said:
ojima stated that Rising will play like a mainstream European and North American-style game and as such he feels that "it doesn't matter if it lacks the message aspect of a MGS game I'd make."
To hear one of the best game makers of all time, in my books, say it "doesn't matter" that it lacks the message of the MGS series he'd make makes me want to punch him in the face.
What I don't look forward to is another God of War with cinematic fights of timed button presses. To me it looks like a cross between GoW and Dynasty Warriors in a more futuristic setting. Considering the people behind Bayonetta are working on it I'm not too sure what to think of the gameplay other then it looks cheesy. Compared to anything else in the Metal Gear series, this game looks like shit. Why would Raiden want to go back to his Jack the Ripper persona? Seriously? He had the girl he always loved, and his new found child, why the **** would he go back to that?
A game based on his past as a child soldier would of been a blockbuster; not this stupid shit.
~
On another note: the Diablo III trailer was pretty ****ing badass. I wish we could of seen an extended gameplay somewhere along the line, but Blizzard always makes top-notch cinematic scenes. I have high hopes for this game.
And as well Rainbow Six looks like it's going to have a great backstory. How the gameplay will be is another whole story entirely. But, I have to lol @ the 2013 release date. Considering there are rumors of the PlayStation 4 coming out the end of 2012.

Glad to see Portal 2 walk away with a few wins. Easily the most entertaining game I've ever played. Bioshock Infinite's trailer was a little weird with the music, but it still has my undivided attention going into next year. I haven't played Skyrim myself, but I know quite a few people who got hooked on it.

That's why you get a PS3, and download it off the PSN Store.
