Okay, so I can make a pretty solid gabber kick with the VST "Hydra", but my main problem is: the gabber kick seems to play over the melody or any other layer. I've messed with the freq and the volume, and usually when its toned down enough to hear the melody, the kick itself loses power. :/
Is there anyway to get around that issue? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Maybe it's easier to help if we can listen to an example?
I'm also trying to make kicks with Hydra (I'm a beginner). Do you make your kicks in one sigle piece or in layers?

i found it easier to do it in layers but over distort them and just play about with it

Technically I can, but the distortion seems to cover most of the melody up.
What could I do to balance it out where the kick still has good power but doesn't take over the melody completely?

@Wilky: So I guess 1 layer low bass frequencies, 1 layer middle bass frequencies and 1 layer punch? Something like that?
@Adisky: Maybe panning the distortion and the melody so they don't block eachother?
Edit: Or sidechaining the distortion to the melodie?

Okay... I'm pretty pissed right now but you should still give this a shot... hehehe
err... I don't know how experienced you are or what program you're using but I've come across this problem in the past with FL10, not long after i started using like but anyway...
If you have a Limiter plugin on your master track in your mixer, turn it off... took me ages to notice FL10 automatically gave you a limiter on your master with the default template :'(, if you don't, try reducing all of the volumes of your different instruments / thingymabobs... then piss about with your levels... It's worth a shot? ;)

without listening it's hard to help, but at a guess, the distortion on the kick is more than lightly taking over the mid to high frequencies, either eq each to suit or maybe try sidechaining the melody to a muted kick, so it ducks when the audible kick is playing?
but for better advice i'd suggest you post a clip
