Okay so me and my friend are planning a hardcore event at the local events venue, and he's recommended we get our own PA gear because his isn't as good as we'd need at an event like this (I've listened to them, I work there every wednesday, just sounds to me like an eq problem but whatever)
Was just wondering out of curiosity how much I'd be looking to spend (buying my own)?
I am going to be hiring atm, but would like my own eventually possibly... :P
Basically I wouldn't wanna get a couple of 800 quid speakers if I'd only need 400 speakers, and there'd be no point in buying a 800 amp if I don't even need it lol

Depends entirely on the size of the venue. Personally I'd say 4000 pounds minimum just for a VERY SMALL setup if you want something with any sort of quality.
*edit* Why the hell doesn't the GBP sign work on here anymore. :(

Very small being a few hundred I'm guessing? And how steep does the price climb from there? For 2000, would it be like 20 grand or something? lol
And yeah, was wondering that myself :/

You should probably rent. If you don't know what to buy you definitely won't know how to setup, compress/limit, EQ a system designed for more than 150 people.
If you're just planning on doing small events you can get a smaller powered kit (powered sub, powered monitors) and it would be ok. Probably 3000$ for something ok.
A system for a large (500 people+) venue costs quite a bit more.
