How would one go about creating a type of "sine wave" (dunno if that'd be the correct term) that Darwin uses in a lot of his tunes?
Check http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=an8hdA_1QOw&feature=player_detailpage#t=182s to see what I mean. Is it so simple as a string at a high pitch with some effect?

Yeah, just sounds like a string sample or synth at high pitch, maybe with a bit of LFO on for the light vibrato effect.
And strings are actually saws, or kind of saws >;D

definitely a string patch of some sort played at a high octave. I usually get mine from reason's NN-19 sampler. Either the Bigstrings or Orchstrings patch. quite generic but does the job.
