that's really not much different from any other industry in many countries, especially in the US, UK, & many latin american countries who have all had a plethora of boy & girl bands. Some make it, some don't. No matter how hard you try.
The DJ industry is pretty much the same. many ppl work their ass off producing and mixing, and many don't get anywhere.
The only major difference is that most of the huge popularity of all-sex bands has died down in other countries for almost a decade, whereas it's just emerging in Korea, during a time where all mainstream music is digital and piracy has reached everywhere.

I don't think their making much from actual sales of music. I think its the huge marketing deals and concerts that bring the money to the table. Like this one, a song made to advertise a water park by two hugely popular groups. I think thats the main reason why the smaller ones aren't getting much at all.
But the not getting any money is also very true here. If you're the most popular artist of Finland, you still couldnt live by record sales. So the bigger the group the more they have to look elsewhere for the income if they want to make a living out of it. But i'm pretty sure at least to some extent the Korean labels are handing the artists pisspoor contracts where they have little to no idea what they sign.
Another factor on not making money is that some of them train years before ever making a debut. So theres excessive training without any income, and no guarantee there ever will be. So i dont think its easy for the labels either. But the artists definitely get the shortest stick in the deal.
I also read another article (was in finnish, so no reason to post a link) where the government fears they (labels) are forcing underaged girls to perform in very "rounchy" outfits and all that. I think thats the real dark side. Their planning on doing new legislations to protect the artists, but they didn't give any examples on the article. So don't know what type of groups they were talking about.
