Every detail is important. Every sweep or hit will in some way or another effect your overall mix, so during mixdown it might be necessary to EQ and/or compress everything. And I don't mean the master channel. Lol. Everything individually.

It depends. Usually yes but not strictly. They are quite subtle sounds so can get away without using any if the sound should already fit perfectly well. For the same reason though (sublety) getting rid of alot of the top or bottom end of both can really help to keep the sound subtle and not overpowering. I would EQ in accordance to what i want the effect to be doing. If i want it to sit back then that's how i would EQ it, if i want it up front then again i would EQ or not EQ accordingly. Think about the part that it is playing in the track, any time you are EQing anything, and that will make how you should EQ it a lot clearer. Don't just do it for the sake of it.
