I'd start by deciding which you want to do first 1) be a dj or 2) be a producer (write your own songs)

For making music first you'll need to decide on what platform and DAW (Digital Audio WorkStation) you want to work on.
PC:
Cubase
FL Studio
Reason
Mac:
Logic
There are other options available but these are the most common DAWs. FL Studio has a demo but not really sure about any of the others. I've tried all the options I've listed for PC and listed them by favourite descending. Really didn't like Reason at all. That's just my opinion though and you may feel different so try and check them out if possible.
You'll need some samples as the stock drum samples are always shit for modern Hardcore. Try the Vengeance Essential Club Sounds range, that's the obvious first choice but there is loads of useful packs about.
Once you've sorted what DAW you want to use and got to grips with it I'd suggest looking at getting a proper studio Soundcard, Active Monitors and a midi keyboard. I use an Echo Mia Midi, KRK Rokit 6's & an Edirol PCR-50. All work well for me but there is endless options available to choose from.
Next up you will likely want to grab some extra VST's - Synths, FX Units, etc. Get the other bits out the way first though and learn to use the DAW before you worry about these.
For DJing you will need an amp and speakers. If you already have a hi fi system or a computer with reasonable speakers (such as monitors for producing) you can wire it through these if you prefer. Youll also need a mixer, Headphones and decks. You could use 2 vinyl turntables, 2 cd decks or a mix of both if you wanted. You could also go down the route of using vinyl turntables alongside something like Serato so you can play digital files as well.
Thats a basic guide to what you need, hope it's of some help.
