^^ it's expected that they play all the 'favourites'. Don't play the anthems, and you get a raver backlash ... and it's not just the DJ's who get in sh** for playing 'crap' sets. The promoters also get hammered for having 'crap' music at their parties, so sometimes there's more pressure on the DJ's to play crowd-pleasers.

Well, the crowds are the main supporters, they fork out they money to hear what they want to hear. Think of it like hiring a video - you want to see that movie, you pay money for that. When the movie, isn't what you except and doesn't meet your standards, you diss it.
The DJ's and promoters are doing it for the crowds (and for the money it brings in ). So to keep it going, give them what they what - its only makes sense.
Unfortunately the scene is like that, but thats the way its is for just about everything. People can spend they're time and energy to make stuff that they think is good, but if the people don't want or like it - sorry buddy.
My 2 cents (maybe 2.2 cos of GST)

Yeah, but where's the scene headed when every DJ is expected to play so many of the old tracks that he/she has no time left for the new ones? I like anthems as much as the next guy, but I think it won't hurt to 'rest' the classics for a couple of parties and try out some new tracks and new sounds. If, as you say, the crowd decides, then how does it decide whether it likes a song without even hearing it? There are so many quality tracks out there that I would *love* to hear at a rave but never do, because everyone's trying to outdo eachother with their old, rare tracks that we've heard a thousand times before.
Case in point: at Twilight Zone II, I counted 4 plays of 'Hands of Destiny' and 5 of 'Renegade Rewind', and at Hyperspeed 7 'Toytown' was played 6 times over the two arenas. What's the point? By the third play no-one's even caring anymore.
Just my 10c (my 2c is free) :P

Point taken - think that DJ's should find the fine line between playing tracks that go off an experiementing with new stuff. Maybe start off with some classics and then progress with new stuff.

Alot of MC's are the same, they babble and rabble instead of doing they're job - hyping up the crowd. Go and read the MC Lyrics topic and look at those lyrics, hardly entertaining. Like cheap Hiphop battle lyrics.
Scooters old stuff - on "Our Happy Hardcore", "The Beat Goes On" is great and the best part is that they use to perform live, what Hixxy, Brisk, Breeze, Scott Brown and most other producers will never be able to do. Don't get me wrong, they are great but it takes a lot of skill and practise to play live.
Scooter were a mad BAND, but now they've lost to to more commercial stuff.
