Is there a general key to getting that kind of beautiful, "glassy" synth? Just curious

Possibly FM synthesis. Or a synth with a FM oscillation on it. The question in the very general way you've asked is pretty much unanswerable. There is so many factors involved.

This is just guess work but, as Hard2Get suggested, FM synthesis, possibly using Triangle/Sine waves, low passed quite high up the frequency range with high resonance, high passed fairly high too, reverb and delay and that synth is using a lot of portamento by the sounds of it. TRy throwing all of that together and see how you get on lol.

Definately triangle/sine (amongst many other things + modulations) waves, with a slow attack on the amp envelope.

Everything by Rom Di Prisco is win. Same can be said for several others like Barry Leitch.
