Anyone any ideas what this could be?

I have the headphone out turned all the way up, and the headphones dont have a built in volume control, but it is VERY quiet, too quiet really to mix at any volume...

Any ideas on this be much appreciated!

bit more information on your setup? :)

turntables or cd decks?

if you're on turntables:
sounds a little like you have your turntables plugged into the wrong input, make sure they are plugged into the phono input on the back of the mixer and not the line!
then check your toggle switch on faders is set to phono on both faders
