I was just thinking of how Hardcore was so much better when reading Kathryn's thread, well I actually think of it all the time, but then I thought of something else!
I think no matter what genre of electronic dance music, the best stuff was in the early 2000s for me! I just listened to some old tunes like "On the move", "Exploration of Space", "Next", "Cambodia", "You can't stop us" which remind me a lot of my childhood, because I still remember when they got released and were played everywhere, yeah even on Viva! those tracks ain't hardcore, but they're techno/trance, they may be commercial but they were damn good! When I listen to new techno like Basshunter I just think.. "seriously, what is this shit!".
Do you think this is because most people like the music from when they were little, because it reminds them of their childhood, or was electronic really at it's peak at that time?
Also when I listen to house, the tracks were much better 6-7 years ago. I remember some house albums which I bought back in 2004 when I was in france.. and damn, they're so much better!
Not sure about DnB, it's actually always good, but nothing compares to some old Omni Trio from 1995!! :-)

I would say it was better in the 90s but that is my opinion. It was better in the early 2000s than it is now though

yes! both house and trance tracks were so full of energy, here in the US we had melodic or progressive trance, and then progressive and hard house still. and then the tracks seemed to lose a lot of energy and started sounding monotone 2 me about 2004. can't really say much on breakbeat & dnb b/c at that time i wasn't listenin to it
