Hey everyone,
Just to let you know, I am currently temporarily offering remix and production services. Equipment is solely Digital, FL 9 and Cubase 5. Each track is completed in 2 or less days (only on weekends, as i have school during week, which is definitely not win), very seldom any more. This includes mastering too. All productions are done from scratch, no templates, and they feature processed percussion and samples, no straight VEC nonce sense. The rate at the moment is a measly 50 GBP including a mastering session in order to get the finished mix to a nice level of volume, and fixing up final polishing. Please note that I don't believe in ultra high RMS value masters, which have been excessively limited.
Please ask for clips of my latest work, and if you're interested, dont hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,
-j / ss

It's a standard procedure. Almost Every producer who works with labels does remixes as it's what they get paid to do, it's their job. In saying that, everyone charges different rates, most charge 100 GBP + (In Hardcore). In other genres of music, the remix fee is much higher. Also the other reason people charge for remixes is because they make no money thereafter from it, half goes to the orig artist (royalties) and the other half the label.. I've done plenty of free remixes for people as favours, but I need to try to save for my uni course next year, so i think it's peanuts to charge 50 AUD for something ill spend a great deal of time on :).
Thanks for the words guys!

As Starstruck said, it's very standard. As a matter of fact, it's where most of the money is at, along side engineering.

Hehe, I don't really understand why producers can be expected to do production work for free. It takes alot of time to do a track for MOST producers, and at the end of the day it's a job and service.

Yeah, it makes sense
Usually, as a label owner, you'll pay a remixer 100-300 pounds to remix a track. Generally, you get a someone more recognized than the original artist because the point of the remix is to garantee sales of the record.
The remixer doesn't generally get paid royalties so it makes sense when they're paid a one time fee.
Other benefits are that it can help promote the original artist and the label.
Side note: 50 dollars is super cheap.

Ok...here was my view on remixing....
Let's take, for example, "Rebuild Your Heart" by Weaver. Well, the flip side of the vinyl has a Scott Brown remix. Did Scott Brown ASK to do a remix, or did Weaver ask Brown to do the remix? I always thought the person doing the remix had to ask & pay the original artist to remix one of their songs.

Weaver would have asked Scott Brown. Producers of his calibre produce for money not fun. It's his living. Weaver (or whoever runs the label) would have had to pay Scott Brown.

no, remixers get asked, and the remixer gets paid.

My apologies for the double post, but a bit of an update!!!
Due to time constraints (very little time available to work on paid productions, as well as own), combined with large amounts of label work and final year of schooling, the price for remixing / production has been raised. Please note that a lot of time and care is spent on the tracks (8+ hours). I was very surprised by the large influx of people wanting work done, but looking at it from a more logical perspective makes me believe that 50$ AUD isn't really a considerable amount due to all this work and so little time.
I require half of the balance to be paid upon commencement, and the rest to be paid upon hearing a clip of the finished master (if you're happy with it). I've had a couple of issues with payments lately and I need to keep everything in order.
I am still taking work, please PM or email me with background information regarding your project(s) and I will be happy to sort something out and talk further.
