Yeah but people's health isn't one of them. Alcohol is as bad as any drug (and is a drug) and it's still perfectly legal.

And that applies equally to alcohol, nicotine and anything else like that.

Actually it's not sound. The over indulgence of those physical activity will not harm you (within reason). It's the actions of the person that causes harm. Long term smoking of pot does harm, as a direct result of the smoking. Theoretically I can keep skydiving, hang gliding, surfing, motorbike riding without getting so much as a scratch. If I smoke pot long term, issues will develop in time and directly responsible is the consumption of weed.

Weed isn't very toxic, but it burns warmer than tobacco, so just the smoking part of the consumption can actually damage your lungs better than cigarettes do. As far as I know, THC itself does less damage than nicotine and alcohol, but I'm not a chemist or pharmacist.

Well the mental effects of cannabis use are worse than the physical ones, that's generally what people refer to when they talk about it in relation to health. Although of course this applies only to heavy usage not occasional recreational use (there are exceptions obviously but there has been several posts so far on how those are completely irrelevant). Infact, i'm not even talking about clinical mental health issues even; i mean equally the effect it has on your life in general.

So basically what you're saying is that if someone wants to wreck their life, let them do it?

Popping an E or doing a line of coke once every full moon can hardly be wrecking your life though. I can't really imagine someone wanting to become, let's say, a heroin addict and loaf around on the streets.

No wants to be any of that, but it doesn't stop it from happening.
